what does PEW stand for?

I was just looking at different kinds of Bibles on the web and came across the acronym (I'm guessing that's what it is, anyway). So, what is PEW Bible?

Another thing, as you notice, this will be my first post - with so many forums as there are here, I'm not sure that this is the correct one to post such questions to...

Just a wild guess would be that a "pew Bible" is a Bible that is intended for use in a church pew.

They are Bibles that are set out in the pews for those people who come to church without one.

Thanks, I got it now.

The problem was that I had no clue what a 'pew' was... as English is not my first language.

On a side note, how would such a Bible be different then, say, your study Bible, etc?

Ok, a pew is just a bench to sit on in church. So if I donated my study Bible to the church to leave in a pew for someone who doesn't have one it would be called a pew Bible. The only difference is the name, and quite honestly, I've never really used that term before.

A pew is the bench like seating in church. On the back, which faces the pew behind it, there is a pocket where offering envelopes, visitors cards, prayer request cards, hymnals, and Bibles are kept for the congregation's use while in the service. My church doesn't have pew Bibles, they expect people to have one and bring it with them. But pew Bibles have a hard cover, where regular Bibles are usually leather or leather type of plyable cover. They hold up better to a lot of useage with the hard cover. Just so you know.

For someone who doesn't speak English as a first language, you speak a lot better than some that I've encountered who do.
