A bit off topic I know but I've always been curious. Who recorded the word of Jesus on the Mount, was there someone beside him writing it all down? I mean it is very long and very important word for word for Christians, so it can't just have been someone standing by remembering things, and then telling his son and so on. Always found that curious. Sorry for going OT.
I've read that popular rabbis in that period would sometimes have scribes traveling with them to record their teachings. Jesus was called a rabbi, and while he himself might not have afforded such a service he had followers who could, such as Matthew.

Another possibility I've read is that the sermon is a compendium of teachings from multiple sermons. Being an itinerant preacher he likely gave the same or similar teachings repeatedly. For example, there's a similar but not identical sermon in Luke.
