Hello all. I'm new. I'm not a christian and I really have no religion. In fact, I haven't thought about religion, looked at a Bible, or prayed untill about three weeks ago. Three weeks ago I awoke from the best sleep ever about to burst into tears. I had a wonderful dream. I'm not sure why I wanted to cry, or why I'm about to cry now. But my dream is the reason why I'm here now.

My dream was none like I have ever had before. Everything in it was so real. It was like it wasn't a dream at all. I dreamnt that I was walking through a field of soft beautiful grass, and living in the dry desert of Texas grass is rare. There were flowers and trees everywhere. The animals weren't scared at all. I was walking with a man that I had never met in my life. But for some reason I knew him, I had felt like he had been a part of me for years. I was not scared of this man at all. As we walked not one of us said anything. Then we walked up a slope, onto a tall round boulder. As we stood there he stretched out his arm and waived it from right to left( I was standing on his left side) palm side up and said "All of this Crystal." And for some reason I understood exactly what he meant. As we stood there I stared in wonder, and then turned to the man and asked him "Why Jesus? Why would he give such horrible people such a great place ?" He had no answer. He just smiled. We stood there for a few minutes longer and then started walking again. This time though we talked. He told me that I was to spread God's word. And that I was sort of like a "chosen one". I told him that I couldn't spread the word. I was entirely too shy(it took me three weeks to do this), and that no one would listen to what I had to say, and that I wasn't even sure if I believed in God. He told me that through God anything is possible, and that I will become what he has planned for me. It will just take some time. And then he vanished. And I woke up.

I don't know what to do or think of this dream. Part of me says "let it go, it's just a dream" but there is a nother part of me that wonders if it wasn't some sort of message. I'm really confused and would like to know what others think of this. I would appreciate the help. Thanks.

Hmm, that is very interesting Crystal. What do you think it means? You said you had not looked at a Bible until 3 weeks ago - have you looked at one since you had that dream? Have you prayed since then?
I would suggest that you pray and ask the Lord what your dream means and what you should do about it.

Beautiful... I would say you have been called.
The fact that you came here to talk about it shows a lot, in my opinion. I think you should become a Christian, and look into a "spreading God's word." Of course, I think everyone should become a Christian :p, but seriously consider it. I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have about Christianity. :)

Might I suggest, since you said that you 1) were not a Christian, and 2) had not read the Bible, that you get ahold of one and read the entire book of John in the New Testament. It will give you a pretty decent perspective of who Jesus is, what he did for you, and what he wishes for you. It shouldn't take you too long to read through the whole book.

When you have done that, come back here and discuss your perceptions of what you have read. Then, I believe that we can be of more help to you.

But to answer your immediate question, it is not unlikely that Jesus might use a dream to awaken you to his presence. But you can get a clearer picture by reading the Bible.

If you are unable to find a Bible easily, you can find the Book of John here:

In the King James version: http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John;&version=9;
In the New International version (probably easier to read): http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John;&version=31;

I also rather like Mark, so if you have time...
In King James Version:
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Mark%201%20;&version=9;
In New International Version:
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Mark 1 ;&version=31;

By the way, you'll need to hit the buttons at the bottom of the screen if you read these - it only shows one chapter at a time. :)

Isnt' it great that God can reveal Himself to us, without all the entrapments and accoutrements of a religion?

(Either that or you were in New York.)

God knows that you have seen the religiosity with skepticism, and that is exactly what is needed these days. A pure and honest viewpoint, a person who hasn't fallen into the culture of contemporary church, but a person who thinks and only steps out in what they know to be true.

The gospel is one of freedom, of forgiveness, God giving, God helping us so directly that part of the truth comes from our hearts. Like everyone suggested above, read what He has to say. Find out for yourself what the truth is, and what this gospel is all about.

Don't worry about whether the dream seems too dramatic to be real, or whether it was of God, or whether you can handle whatever it is He will ask of you. It's not that scary. Just start exploring the terrain.

The dream is very clear. God has given you a vision and He is calling you out to preach His Word. WOW!

I'm not sure how often God gives these visions to people but it is something to treasure. I know of a man who got saved from seeing a vision. He saw God's Hand writing him a letter while he was looking up the ceiling and the letter spoke to his heart, telling him to repent.

Your dream and your name seem to have much of the imagery in the parable of the hidden treasure & the pearl of great price (read Matthew 13:44-46). If you feel this dream is a form of calling, take things one step at a time. First confess Jesus Christ as your saviour and find a true Christian church (can be a challenge). Pause though if you feel a calling, read & pray about the plentiful harvest our Saviour speaks of in Matthew 9:36-38 (give it some time). A good quick overview of sin & the human condition is outlined by St. Paul in Romans chptrs 1 & 2. An excellent summary of the Old Testament is reiterated by St.Stephen in Acts chptr 7. The Gospel of John chptr 1 reveals the divinity of our Saviour, John the Baptists call to all for repentence & selection of the Apostles. Matthew Chptrs 5, 6, & 7 our Saviour outlines the core of the Gospel. Hope this can be helpful to you in your journey through the grace of all mighty God.

I think you really need to get the bible and read about Jesus. What He said and What He did.

There are 4 books in the bible that give an account of what Jesus said and did. If you want to know why those bad people are going to be forgiven and are going to have eternity with Jesus then read the books Matthew Mark Luke and John. Then you can take your time to read to the end of the bible.

You really need to know what Jesus was and is all about. Do not trust anyone but Jesus to guide you, You can listen and read the thoughts of other people like me and others here but your eternal destiny is wrapped up with your realtionship with Jesus.

Jesus will guide you if you are ready and willing to be guided. Do not be afraid. If Jesus is with you, you have eternity with Him and all this life and its troubles are as nothing compared to that. :)

And you say you are shy? Well the Meek will rule the earth.

Isaiah 57:15
For thus says the High and Lofty One Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “ I dwell in the high and holy place,With him who has a contrite and humble spirit, To revive the spirit of the humble, And to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

We are ALL called to be the "salt of the earth" and "light of the world", it just depends on where we are to go and how we are to do it.

I think that the Holy Spirit enables things such as you have experienced to pull you towards Christ. You have been shown a glimpse of absolute peace and perfection and this is what is waiting for all Christians....but not without hardship, pain, and temptation. The Christian walk isn't an easy one, but it's the "right one" (like in Chronicles of Narnia when asked about Aslan, Beaver says no he isn't safe...but he's good).

I understand your fear. I have been talked through with dreams as well. Sometimes it's hard to distinguish what is "real" from what is just a dream. I had a dream that I was in church and my fiance was with me in my membership class (that he didn't attend) and he was getting pulled into a great black chasm and I grabbed him and crying, I pulled him out. It seemed to real for just a dream. That weekend he attended the class out of the blue with me, and decided he wanted to be baptized (a very huge step considering how his family is).

God also spoke to me (through my grandfather who is in heaven) in a dream where my grandfather was there (and I had never had a dream before with him in it in my life). I asked my grandfather why he was there cause he was dead. He said two words "be prepared" and then I dreamt of my cousin's wedding and my grandma dying. Those in real life happened sequentially (along with other dream details). When the phone rang at my cousin's wedding (that very day) my dad told me my grandma fell down stairs, her hips were non-existant (bone deterioration) and she was in the hosptial. She never recovered...and I told my dad that (he has dreams too) cause he asked if she would come out of it. On top of that, I discovered this year I have a half-sister and my dad (and I don't know how he is spiritually) has been doing things that I would never have expected him to do ever (like go to a revival...AND invite his friends and family, and talk about spiritual stuff that he never had done before).

As to your case, this is a beautiful and relevant passage from Exodus 4:

Moses said to the LORD, "O Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue."

The LORD said to him, "Who gave man his mouth? Who makes him deaf or mute? Who gives him sight or makes him blind? Is it not I, the LORD ? Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say."

But Moses said, "O Lord, please send someone else to do it."

Then the LORD's anger burned against Moses and he said, "What about your brother, Aaron the Levite? I know he can speak well. He is already on his way to meet you, and his heart will be glad when he sees you. You shall speak to him and put words in his mouth; I will help both of you speak and will teach you what to do. He will speak to the people for you, and it will be as if he were your mouth and as if you were God to him. But take this staff in your hand so you can perform miraculous signs with it.
So, just be warned...yes it WILL be all beautiful in the end but you have to go through a desert to get there. I agree with Lukaris...there are steps to such things that must be taken as you admit you aren't a Christian (it's not a matter of "becoming a Christian", "accepting Christ" as is the typical witnessing viewpoint. It's more of realizing who Christ is and what he did...realizing that he died to save your sins because nothing you can do can ever be good enough. Salvation is not achieved through acceptance, it is achieved through pure faith which we have been given by God through his grace. Everyone who is a Christian is becoming a Christian. It is a daily walk. It's like you don't just "become an Adult", you grow towards it. It's a continual growth and learning process that does require habitual study and prayer (and a good Biblical church so you can fellowship with others). You need a solid foundation before you spread the word because there are evils in this world that will try and stop you and if you don't have that shield of your foundational knowledge, Biblical support, and strength of Christ backing you up, you will get hurt. 1 Peter 5:8-11.

You have been given a wonderful sneak peek :) It's the Holy Spirit's way of saying "Yes, God exists and I think this dream will be the best way to show him to you."

Plumb "God Shaped Hole"
Every point of view has another angle
And every angle has its merit
But it all comes down to faith
That's the way I see it

You can say that love is not divine and
You can say that life is not eternal
"All we have is now"
But I don't believe it

There's a God-shaped hole in all of us
And the restless soul is searching
There's a God-shaped hole in all of us
And it's a void only He can fill

Does the world seem grey with empty longing
Wearing every shade of cynical
And do you ever feel that
There is something missing?

That's my point of view...

I don't think this dream was for nothing because it prompted you to visit this website initially. Being a christian is a true experience as I have been one for 27 years. One grows more and more with the help of the Holy Spirit on a daily basis. Its a continuous life long lifestyle to become more and more spiritually like Christ and a serious commitment. I'm one spiritually first and intellectually second. First, I would read The Evidence That Demands A Verdict by Josh McDowell (it would stand up in court concerning the evidence of the Bible and these facts and evidence point to it could only be written by a God). Also, science points to it: www.reasons.org - science and belief. You may have heard misinformation about how they contradict - they don't at all.

Biblical Evidence (Scratching the Surface Only)

Internal Evidences
Prophesies that are confirmed within Bible

- Life of Christ
The Tribe of Judah, Gen 49:10 - Luke 3:23-28
(Genesis was written 4004 BC to 1689 BC)
(Luke's time period is 60-70 AD)

Royal Line of David, Jer 23:5 -Matt 1:1
(Jeremiah 760 to 698 BC)/(Matthew 60-70 AD)

Born of a Virgin, Isaiah 7:14/Matt 1:18-23
(Isaiah 760 to 698 BC)/(60-70 AD)

**I can list at least 20 more of these.
-Rise of Empires
In the book of Daniel, Chapter 2 - four kingdoms are described in the interpretation of the dream of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon: Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greek - Daniel 8:21, 10:20) and a fourth great kingdom to follow - part iron and clay - which is the Roman Empire - during this empire Christ came and the church was established - Daniel 2:44.

-Historical Accuracy
The Bible is loaded with historical statements concerning events hundreds of years ago, yet has not been proven incorrect on any.
(Bible compared to other ancient documents):
New Testament - starts at 25 years - between original and first surviving copies
Homer - starts at 500 years
Demosthenes - at 1400 years
Plato - at 1200 years
Caesar - at 1000 years

Number of Manuscript Copies
New Testament - 5,686
Homer - 643
Demosthenes - 200
Plato - 7
Caesar - 10

Consistency
Written by at least 40 men over a period of time exceeding 1400 years, and has no internal inconsistencies.

Claim of Inspiration
It claims to be spoken by God, 2 Tim 3:16-17). No other religious book makes such claims.

External Evidences
(Prophesies Outside the Bible)
These cities were prophesied to be destroyed and never be built again.
Nineveh - Nahum 1:10, 3:7,15, Zephaniah 2:13-14
Babylon - Isaiah 13:1-22)
Tyre (Ezekiel 26:1-28)

Bible before Science
He hangs the earth on nothing - Job 26:7
(Job was written at least 1000 years ago - some scholars think it could be even 3000 years ago)
Note: Man only knew this for 350 years
Earth is a sphere, Isaiah 40:22
Air has weight, Job 28:25
Gravity - Job 26:7, Job 38:31-33
Winds blow in cyclones, Eccl 1:6

Documents that Prove Bible is True
Gilgamesh Epic, The Sumerian King List, Mari Tablets, Babylonian Chronicles

Archealogoical Finds
Excavations of Ur, Location of Zoar, Ziggurats and the foundation of Tower of Babel
