  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

i have a friend who cant stand Valentine's Day. she despises it. she dubbed it "single awareness day" hahaha. that just made me laugh actually. poor girl.

anyway, my question is, what is everyone's opinion on Valentine's Day? is it a great day to show love an appriciation to the one you love (or secretly love) or is it just this ridiculous commerical holiday where you're forced to get something for your signifcant other or face their wrath!! ok i'm only kidding about the 'wrath'. but really...i'm curious. let me know! thanks!

Well, it is really unnecessary, but it is still fun. Its unnecessary because, hopefully, I sufficiently show my love everyday, plus you can really make a special occasion out if it any day of the year. But I still enjoy Valentine's Day. When I was single, I never had a problem with Valentine's Day.

My boyfriend and I have spent three Valentine's Days together, and we've never made a big deal out of it. We see it as a great excuse to spend time with each other on a day we wouldn't typically get the chance, and we always buy each other a nice card and a small gift, but we don't make a huge deal out of it or anything. It's a really commercialized holiday, but it's fun nonetheless.

Even when I didn't have Joe in my life, I still enjoyed Valentine's Day and took it as an opportunity to show my good friends how much I cared about and appreciated them. It doesn't necessarily have to be Singles Awareness Day, and if people who are single would look at it as a day to celebrate friendships or what have you, I don't think they'd really despise the holiday so much.

i'm not a big fan of it. I understand that it's to celebrate a Saint and that's fine, but i think it's become to much of a "hallmark holiday" as a friend of mine dubbed it.
All of my friends were making fun of me yesterday because i'm the only one with a boyfriend and i'm the one who thinks its the silliest holiday ever.
I've also noticed that a lot of people seem to think of it as a day for the men to do something sweet for their lady. I hear a lot of people talking about how how their boyfriend/husband is going to take them out to a nice dinner or they (the boyfriend/husband) will be cooking for them. It's always the guys who pick up flowers and chocolate for their ladies.

I think it's a silly holiday. It's become WAY to much of a 'couples' day
