Wiersbe is called the "pastor's pastor." What do you think of his writings?

Thanks
Dave

I use his materials in my sermon preparation almost on a weekly basis. He has great stuff! He is one of the first resources I go to when studying a passage of Scripture in preparation for preaching and teaching.

I don't know if Dr. Wiersbe is still alive. He was for years the General director of the Back to the Bible Broadcast. He also served as a visitiing instructor at Trinity Evangelical divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois. He also pastored three churches. One of which was Moody Church in Chicago.

His best known work is probably his series of "Be" commentaries on the New Testament. These look to have been originally expository sermons that were collected into book form. Because they were sermons first, they are more devotional in nature than exegetical, but they were very well studied and illustrated (not with pictures) so they would be of great assistance to a young pastor for sermon helps and ideas. I don't know if he ever completed the series of books, I have a half dozen in my library that I reread from time to time becasue they are so well put together.

Yes, I'm looking to get his 2 volume compilation of the Be Commentaries and wanted to know from some people that are like-minded if these are good or not. I'll ask my pastor tomorrow as well, of course, but he doesn't vary too much from what the mainstream people say here.
