Pretty bad--are you suggesting this plan would be a catalyst for his re-election? That is possible. It happened with Ross Perot in the '90s. But the fact is that the American political system is broken--it elected Trump and will likely pendulum swing back to a radical leftist. We need patriots and moderation. Who has a better plan?
My first suggestion would be to not try and implement such a radical new plan a few months before an election. Such a thing needs a lot of discussion, preparation, the input of both the electorate and experts and time to develop and gather speed.

This is nothing but a straw fire. Even assuming this is well-meaning and not just an attempt to split the vote in favor of trump, not enough people will even have HEARD of this plan until the election comes around, forget that they'd be willing to vote for it.

I also am a bit sceptic about the method of chosing the "dark horses". Who gets to decide who is patriotic? Who gets to decide who is moderate?

And that's not even touching the issue that I don't think a lot of people WANT moderation. People want to have their own views championed. That's a bummer, but you can't change that by forcing people to be ruled by a "moderate patriot", because that would be the end of democracy.

Again, this change of viewpoints takes time. Maybe even a generation or two.

Many of your objections are answered by Bret Weinstein in his own podcast. It could actually work if Americans could get out of their allegiance to their precious political party. If you are interested, check out more.

Bret Weinstein announced his plan to elect the next President called, the Dark Horse Duo. This idea is gaining traction on social media with the hashtags #Unity2020 and #DarkHorseDuo.

What do you think?
Would this result in a third Party failure similar to Ross Perot?
Will it save the Republic?
Is it a gimmick?
What if the candidates were different than Andrew Yang and Admiral McRaven?

Both parties should go the whole hog and put up fictional or cartoon characters as candidates.

How does 4 more years of Trump sound to you?
I like it much better than the plan the liberals have for our nation. Look at what they have done to the large cities they run, Do You want that for our nation, you can hate Trump all you like but what happens to our nation is much more important than who sleeps in the White House.

I'm german. I think a democratic president would be better for the relationship of the USA and europe. You guys might even be allowed to visit, again.

As if we and our money would not be welcome anytime if it were not for the Covid. I am not interested in providing you with a president that can be easily manipulated or bribed by setting his son up in business. I have see what open borders has done for you I would not want that here, there were good reasons for Brexit.

This is sarcasm right? A president that can be easily manipulated or bribed by setting his daughter in business is exactly how Ivanka obtained her China patents.

Also, it's interesting that the Ukraine was to be believed when they said there was no pressure from Trump, but not when they said there was no wrong doing from Biden. I'm still waiting on Rudy to pop up with his Ukrainian bombshell.

Can you provide any evidence for your assertion against Ivanka? By the way there is a substantial difference between setting up a former drug addict that was removed from the Navy, who has no experience to justify the business help he received simply because his relationship to the VP and a woman who has built her own successful business.

Its not party allegiance. Its that our electoral system naturally games out to a 2 party contest, with "third" party votes doing nothing but advancing your least favorite candidate.

Is travel to full on socialist nightmare countries like Germany or France even a priority for Trump voters?

That's an absurdly large IF.

I'm all for dismantling of the 2 party system, but i'm loathe to do anything now that puts us at risk of a Trump re-election - which would not end in simply 4 more years of Trump; he's been floating the idea of 3rd, 4th, etc. terms as President at his rallies to thunderous applause by his sycophants. This election is about the survival of our democracy.

Apparently they do like to "spend their money" over there. After all, germany and france are so impoverished that US tourist money is one of the last lifelines to put bread on the table.

From Medium.com:

The Details of the Dark Horse Duo Plan
Here are the features of the plan as Bret Weinstein explained them to Joe Rogan during the podcast interview.

    • America drafts two individuals to serve as president and vice president. Politically, one of the individuals is center left, the other is center right.
    • These two individuals must have these minimum set of characteristics: they must be A) patriotic, B) courageous, and C) highly capable.
    • These two individuals will govern together as a TEAM. All decisions will be made as a team. (Only extremely time sensitive decisions will fall to the person who has inhabited the role of President.)
    • After four years, the team will swap roles. The president becomes vice-president, and vice versa. They continue this way until A) someone new is voted into office, or B) one of the individuals has inhabited the role of president twice, and now must be replaced.

Several problems with this scenario.

First, there is no legal mandate for acting as a team. The person holding the office of President could simply ignore the Vice President's opinions.

Second , the incumbent could simply decide that he/she wants to continue being President and not swap places in the next election.

Third , Weinstein seems to be looking for heroes to lead us instead of looking for representatives to serve us. I am not into hero worshipping.

Fourth, the idea of scamming the system to save us all seems to be counter intuitive.

Fifth , who is it that gets to decide which people are patriotic, courageous and highly capable? There seems to me to be a wide difference of opinion in the country as to what constitutes having those qualities. I know that people that I think completely lack those qualities have been praised by others as having them in abundance and vice versa.

Sixth, I think that Weinstein incorrectly assumes that moderate leadership exampling cooperation and compromise will heal the divisions in the country. I think such healing takes place from the bottom up and not from the top down. If the country is not ready or unwilling to unite it will certainly not elect a Presidential team that is inclined to do so.

Correct, but that is the problem Weinstein's plan is designed to fix.

I agree. I live in California, so I can afford to not vote for Biden, he will carry California anyway. But if I lived in a purple state where every vote mattered, I would have to be more cautious with my vote.

Bit odd to be pushing this vote splitting “dark horse” nonsense in that case.

Who's "pushing" it. We are discussing the idea. I have no settled opinion on it. I don't think you are informed on the details of the idea if you think it will lead to vote plotting. Check it out in more detail.

That is why there is a center left and a center right candidate. Every election cycle, Americans choose candidates that they consider patriotic, courageous and highly capable. Why is this any different; the people are still chosen by the public?
