Yes, it is easier. Homophobia can be traced back to the post Civil War period. Women were just stating to assert themselves. (Susan B Anthony, etc.)
Among their causes was a problem caused by "sporting gentlemen." These were leisure class men who had more money and time than they had morals.
One of their favorite "sports" was tomcatting with poor working-class and lower-class prostitutes. But it was no fun if the prostitute was too experienced, so they began seducing and raping young girls. They would then bribe their silence. If the girl complained, the authorities often sided with the "gentleman," citing the money offered as proof the girl was just another harlot.
Exposing and going after these "gentlemen" became a cause of the women's movement. It was one cause that the God-fearing men of the respectable classes could get behind. That turned up the heat on the "sporting gentlemen."
Some "sporting gentlemen owned, or were otherwise influential with a few newspapers. These papers started carrying yellow journalism pieces about how a new, dangerous breed of sodomites was preying on young boys. Boys of the respectable classes.
Homophobia began with the pedophile lie deliberately being spread by real molesters, just to get the heat off themselves.
