I have read that there is a correlation between the number of sons a mother has born and the chance that the next son will be a homosexual. So, since all embryos start out female, it might be that the hormone cascade that makes an embryo male, (if it has the Y chromosome), would, if weak or absent, make the XY embryo homosexual. An inappropriate hormone cascade might also make an XX embryo lesbian. Of course, more research would be needed to nail this hypothesis down or falsify it.

I remember hearing about a family of eight children, mixed boys and girls, and four of the children were gay. I believe it was one lesbian and two gay men. Really interesting. It leads me to believe that homosexuality is genetic. That's my belief, but you can never be sure.

The answer the Bible gives us is that man's sinful nature is the root cause. It's the same nature that makes me want to have sex with every cute girl I see, that makes me want to cheat on my taxes, that makes me want to flip off the guy who got in my way and cut me off, etc. Sinful desire is so ingrained in us that it seems normal/natural. Agree with it or not, it is exactly what is said in the Bible.

Of course, if you aren't a Bible-believing Christian, you'll probably reject that answer.

As a Christian, I also reject this. This interpretation of what the Bible says is no different than those who interpret the Bible to claim the Sun revolves around the Earth or that the races are meant to be kept separate -- both extremely popular ideas in Christianity in previous centuries that are now understood to be flawed.

So, abuse causes homosexuality, homosexuality causes rebellion against God, and rebellion causes one to go to hell. I'm not an expert in syllogism, but it sounds like you're arguing that sexual abuse causes gays to go to hell.

Actually, you are wrong. You might claim homosexuals are a sinful minority (though that is stereotyping, many homosexuals are not sexually active) but they are still a minority. Simply because you don't like a group does not mean they do not exist.

I think the root cause is hormonal and that it all takes place during gestation. I don't know how it happens any more than I know how people end up left handed. But I'm sure there is an explanation somewhere.
