  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

What do you avoid?

The thread about KFC led me to wonder what (if anything) people here avoid with respect to food and why they avoid it.

I avoid certain additives simply because I believe that they are not safe. Specifically, I avoid BHT, BHA, TBHQ and nitrates and nitrites (such as sodium nitrite).

I only know of one popular (as opposed to the "organic" brands) breakfast cereal that does not contain BHT: Kellogg's Crispix. And the percentage of other processed products like cereal bars, cookies, etc. that do not contain BHT, BHA or TBHQ is not much better.

I have had to avoid--much to my dismay--hot dogs and pepperoni because almost every such product contains sodium nitrite. However, I have noticed in the last couple of years several new products--such as frozen pizzas with uncured pepperoni--that address that concern.

I was going to say Men.....then I realized you were talking about food.

For me, it's kfc and mcdonalds. (no I havent read the kfc thread...but nor do I need to. I know that both KFC and mcdonalds sell cancerous chicken. The chickens are force-fed and develop tumors. Those tumors are then cut off and the other body parts are chopped up and sold extremely cheap....probably other places buy the cancerous chicken too but KFC and McDonalds are the only two I know for sure. There are many othe reasons I refuse to eat mcdonalds food also... such as the label "100% beef" on their products is actually the name of the company they purchase the beef from! I also know someone who put a mcdonalds burger patty on a shelf in their garage for a year and it was still good...no mold or anything! The preservitives and chemicals they inject into their food is is massively ridiculous! Oh.....and I'm not sure but I'm pretty sure their french fries aren't even made out of potatoes..atleast not entirely...they taste like turnips. ohh....I could go on....

Chocolate Cake. . . My body has a much much lower tolerance for chocolate then most people.

I can get away with one piece barely. When I was a kid I tried to eat two pieces and I ended up getting through only half of the second before I realized my mistake. It wasn't long before it all came out the same way it came in.

Oh and right now I'm avoiding Pizza Hut because Pizza Hut is dead to me. First of all I went there once and they dramatically reduced the size of the medium without telling me and charged me the same price. For that price I could have gotten two pizzza's at little ceasers that where larger then that one.

Secondly I went there another time to dine in. We all order Pizzas and there are a total of 3 different Pizza's ordered. They brought out all the pizza for my family. Then I just sat there and watched my family eat waiting for my pizza. I waited and waited and waited. My family finished their pizzas. And then they are like "Sorry we forgot to cook your pizza." Yeah well thanks a lot I couldn't even enjoy eating with my family which is why we dined in in the first place. I took my Pizza home in a box and we still payed full price for the whole thing.

That was at least 6 months ago and I still refuse to buy anything from Pizza Hut.

I avoid diet drinks. Such as Diet Pepsi and Diet Coke etc. Because they contain something called Aspartame. Consuming Aspartame in small amounts every so often won't hurt you really. But as it accumulates in your body it can cause some harmful effects. People have reported symptoms ranging from abdominal pain, dizzyness, and depression to ADHD-like symptoms, symptoms mimicing MS, and epilepsy!

I know that you can't believe everything you hear. But I had a friend who drank diet stuff and added artificial sweeteners to her food all the time and she thought she had MS for awhile. I found out about aspartame, told her to stop drinking diet stuff and using artificial sweeteners and within a month her symptoms were gone and they haven't come back.

So yeah, I don't drink diet sodas or use artificial sweeteners and I check most of my foods to make sure they don't contain aspartame. ;)

I avoid,

Walmart - I saw a documentary on their business practices, very unethical, I'll be avoiding them for a while

shelled walnuts - they give me horrendous cramps

aspartamine - it's bad stuff and tastes nasty

Wendy's - their meat tastes like dog food, but I love their frostys! :yum:

I have to agree with the KFC and McD's stuff. Diet sodas and artificial sweeteners too. I stay away from bananas because even though they are quite tasty, they make me sick and my stomach gets real upset. I guess thats about it.
