  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What christian songs do you sing and listen to?

I'm in a musical funk this week -not in the mood for my usual goodies. I recently got Jonny Lang's "Long Time Coming" and expected a little more blues and a little less funk, but it's a great cd. Also, Nora Jones' new cd is out this week and I think I'll surprise my hubbin with it for V-Day!

I don't know what I'm in the mood for right now...

I would appreciate it, if you all would quit downing the Pentecostal Churches. Chances are you have never had the experience of the Holy Ghost, or you wouldn't be writing things against us. Yes, some people do fake it. But, I'll tell you one thing a Pentecostal Church has got, and that's the joy of the Lord, and no one can take that away from us! When you go and see people dancing around, the Holy Ghost is making such a change in their life, and they are SO happy that they've gotta let it out somehow and that's the way we do it! And when demon's are cast out, why would someone get scared over that, I mean some people ARE possesed with demons, and I wouldn't quit going to any church because they we're praying for someone with demons, I would be glad to see them set free from demons, ever notice how when the demons have left a sudden peace comes over their body, I would wish that for anyone with demons. And remember, God is the same God yesterday, today and tomorrow. God NEVER changes. The Bible clearly says that the Holy Ghost is our comforter. We at the Pentecostal Churches get so much comfort from the Holy Spirit, you've got to let out the excitement from the joy given to you! Don't talk down about us, unless you've come up with scripture to prove it wrong, and don't let people who went to a Pentecostal Church one time and doesn't really know the basis behind it all influence your views on our church. :(

I'd say ontopic. That aspect of pentecostal churches was discussed. If it was off topic why wasn't it mentioned originally? If you say something negative about someones beliefs, you have to be prepared to let said person defend their beliefs. Just because the majority agrees on something doesn't mean the minority shouldn't be allowed to say their opinion.

On topic: I like songs like "Shout to the lord". I have no idea what genre that is.

I don't like new fancy ones that I've noticed coming through. Where the singers complicate things. The singling over the top of the congregation to make it sound like an album. When they start going into that it changes from worship to a performance in my mind. If I want a performance I'll go to the theater.

I just started attending a new church and they sing hymnns. Maybe it's just this church, but I've noticed some of the hymns are more about the church than about God. With my pentecostal background that doesn't sit well with me. The songs should be completely about worshipping God.

I'd say it was on topic, because a lot of people have been slagging off at pentecostal churches, and people have a right to defend the church. Shout to the Lord is a HIllsong, they are pentecostal. I do like some Hillsong stuff, but prefer Vineyard.

I think when we are putting down other churches we are walking in dangerous territory.

well.. i never pay attention to which company makes which songs, so i'll just list some here that catch my attention particularly:

Lord, lift your name on high (something like that)
Give thanks
Pass it on
The power of love
Seeking you first?

uh, i keep remembering the first line, but the name isn't necessarily the first line of the song.. oh well..
