• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Me myself having gone through bouts of deppression, i came to find that it wasnt what was going on around me that was making me deppresed, it was my medication. I'm a natrually hyper person. I have ADD/ADHD, so i was put on concerta to try and solve this problem. But what I can to realize is that it wasnt that i was deppressed, it was that my medication was making me depressed. If anyone has anything else about depression and what may cause it please tell me.:help:

there is lots of things that can cause downs, the blues or deeper; depression. for you, you need to ask a doctor or counselor  because we are all so different and like you pointed out, sometimes chemicals can cause it. diets, moods, blood viatimns etc. ask doc :) that's a great question!

thats for replying. because the doctor diagnosed me with depression i was put on prozac, but what made me realize it might have been a chemical cause, was when i was taken off concerta and then thats when i became all happy and cheerful again, right now i am on adderall and im doing fine on it im still a little ball of energy.

Hi,

This is a hard question to answer, mostly because the human body is so very complex and everything is really connected. Thought´s can affect the mood, the mood can affect thoughts. and then there is the chemistry of the brain that play´s it´s role.

All I can say is try out different medications. Prozac might not fit everybody. If you however feel that prozac is helping, then thumbs up.

Understanding total depravity, that is our wretchedness and God's love and grace, is the way to deal with "melancholia"

Don't underestimate the Strength of Sin

Our society has seen an alarming increase in bizarre and enslaving behavior-gambling, psychopathic lying, anorexia, bulimia, crossdressing, homosexuality, pornography, serial rape and gruesome psychiatric disorders. Therapists, physicians, and sadly, Christian counselors scramble to find some medical or genetic etiology to explain the extent of today's bondage and perversion. "Surely," they say, "no one in his 'right mind' would do these things!" Some look to a "medical model" of genetic dispositions and chemical imbalances to account for the behavior. Others in the Christian realm opt for a "demonic model" to explain these aberrant activities.

When a "sin model" is preached as the underlying case, most people- Christian and non-Christian- scoff as if someone were purposing that the earth is flat. When we are seeing in the majority of these situations is actually the result of "full-grown sin." Our understanding of the Bible's teaching about indwelling sin is so deficient that the Christian community is aghast that such behavior could actually take place. A careful study of the first and third chapters of Romans should dispel our "heads in the clouds" attitude about the human heart. The individual's problem isn't that he is somehow "out of his right mind." His problem is that he has a "reprobate mind" and he is reaping what he has been sowing

Initially, you might feel such a diagnosis is unloving and certainly unhelpful. Just the opposite, however, is the case. When the biblical diagnosis is made, the real situation can be applied. God has made a marvelous provoison for sinners-the gospel. That gospel ismore than just a "Roman Road" to salvation. It is not merely the means by which God transfers a man from "the kingdom of darkness" into "the kingdom of His dear Son"-although that alone is far more than we deserve and far more glorious than we can imagine, The gospel- the death, burial and Resurrection of the Son of God-is also God's provision to transform a redeemed sinner's life of misery here on earth into a life of peace and rest from the power and afflictions of sin so that he can become a useful instrumenet in the hand of God. Remember God's "recovery program" is sanctification. Everything else is spiritual quackery" [p.109, Changed in His Image, by Jim Berg]

How is your time of communion with the Lord? In prayer? In the Word? Fix your mind on the the blazing center of the Cross of Christ and rejoice in Him. I will pray that your well-being and that you may find true joy in Christ alone.

Gen 4:6 The LORD said to Cain, "Why are you angry, and why has your face fallen?
Gen 4:7 If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is for you, but you must rule over it."

Phi 1:29 For it has been granted to you that for the sake of Christ you should not only believe in him but also suffer for his sake,

1Th 5:16 Rejoice always,
1Th 5:17 pray without ceasing,
1Th 5:18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
1Th 5:19 Do not quench the Spirit.
1Th 5:20 Do not despise prophecies,
1Th 5:21 but test everything; hold fast what is good.
1Th 5:22 Abstain from every form of evil.
1Th 5:23 Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
