  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do any of you guys still own your albums?
Nah... I got rid of them. The only ones I've replaced with CD are X, U2, Ramones and Social Distortion from my 80's collection. Most of my 90's collection I still have which is... yes, more punk bands but mostly Christian ones.

Oh my goodness, before I listened to Christian music I have to go waaaaayyyy back, lol. Which is the 70's and we know what that means, LOL.

I listened to Blondie (Heart of Glass) The BeeGee's (remember them, lol) Olivia Newton John (Oh no) And yup I liked Air Supply too.

Then it was: Micheal Card, Carman, Sandi Patti, Twila Paris, Harvest, Dino, Christy Lane, and Michael W. Smith

YESSS I still have all my vinyl and 45's. I collected albums back in the 80's. I would hit the flea markets and yard sales and try to find rare vinyl and old Beatles vinyl. You could still find all the oldies back in the eighties. Now the eighties are the oldies. Oh, I still have some 8-tracks too from by early childhood, the 70's.
You guys are really making me miss the 80's on this thread.
I loved John Mellencamp, Thompson Twins & The Outfield.

Aren’t they more considered classics (or retro) now or something like that? I mean many bands are actually still performing. Oldies to me are when the bands are retired and collecting SS checks. Matter of perspective, maybe.

Hmmm...What did I listen to???

...I had a wide variety of musical interests, to say the least.

My favorites were:

Olivia Newton John
New Edition
Kenny Rogers
Def Leppard
Michael Jackson
Van Halen
Men At Work
Joan Jett & The Blackhearts
Cindy Lauper

For me there are too many to name. For the most part, I listened to whatever was playing on the radio at the time - country, rock, heavy metal, pop, r&b and (early) rap.

I love the 80's music and still do. I don't have my old "albums" anymore - but I have replaced some of them on CD's!! (Now my kids listen to MY music and like it too...well some of it anyways!)

...but wait! Then there was the Christian music that I listened to! Anyone ever hear of:

- Petra
- Geoff Moore & The Distance
- Phil Keaggy & Sunday's Child
- Steve Taylor
- Rich Mullins
- Imperials
- Wayne Watson

?

WOW someone else listened to Steve Taylor! Not a lot of people I know, Know who he is But I LOVE his music and sense of humor! I only wish he'd put out something new. I like the Cash Cow song LOL I have that video.

I was saved at a Petra concert so I really love them too.
Before I was saved I was an AC/DC and an Alice Cooper fan. I like Alice Coopers CHristian CD now..I like to play it for my mom because I used to get in trouble for listening to him when I was growing up or for listening to any secular music. Now I can say, "Hey MOM! Guess who this is...Alice Cooper! Uh and yeah it's Christian!" LOL

I didn't listen to radio regularly and when I did, I never heard who was singing the songs. I didn't have a music collection. All I owned was Madonna. But I did have one hidden tape of Guns and Roses. My mom would have had a cow had she seen the cover because it had a skull on it. And a lot of the names that were listed, I never heard of.

I went throught the rock, rap, and heavy metal first. Then Country music.

Madonna, Jon Bon Jovi, Belinda Carlisle, Aerosmith, Motley Crue, Poison (faint, faint, faint), Sir Mix Alot, Guns N Roses, Slaughter (had a couple good ones), Def Leppard

Brooks and Dunn, Reba, Toby Keith, Hank Jr, Charlie Daniels Band, Aaron Tippin, Tim McGraw, Garth Brooks, Diamond Rio, Black Hawk, Alan Jackson, Travis Tritt, Alabama, Oakridge Boys, Kentucky Headhunters, Terri Clark,John Michael Montgomery, and Tracy Lawrence

Anybody ever wonder about how Stryper could call themselves a Christian band and wear those tight spandex pants with makeup and hairspray?
:D

If they would have been women I bet people would have questioned that even more LOL!

I spent some time with them though that year at the Dove awards and they really had hearts to reach the lost and were so fired up for the Lord. I personally didn't care for the Bumble bee outfits but that was the metal scene back then. It stirred up a lot of controversy but I know several people whos lives were changed and turned around for Christ through thier ministry.
It didn't help me being in Bible College at the time though LOL I got told I was going to hell for listening to them. I told the girl I thought it was Jesus who determined that and not her. Which didn't go over well either. Hey, I was a baby in Christ with a bit of attitude coming out of the whole metal/Rock scene back then. I must admit, I still like thier music..still not crazy for the outfits.
