  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I was a bonafied DURANIAC. I wanted to marry John Taylor in the worst way. If TV Guide said any member of Duran Duran was supposed to burp on TV I was there with the VCR.

I also liked Thompson Twins, Madness, Adam Ant, Bananarama, Frankie Goes to Hollywood and Paul Young. The first Band Aid was my dream come true. lol
EEK! I was the same way, except it was Simon LeBon who caught my fancy.

I also adored the first Band Aid! :D

Frankie Goes To Hollywood - I used to have pictures of them plastered all over my walls (then I got a life :D)

I brought back their "Relax" record -yes, record- from England in 1984 before it was released in North America. I also came back with neon mini-skirts and people, I thought I was all that!

I was really into the new wave when I first went to high school- depeche, Duran, FGTH...
but then I really got into the hair bands :D - I'm a rocker at heart.

Speaking of heart, remember them?
Also, I was a huge Springsteen fan!

I really got into Zeppelin in the 80's though.

Do any of you guys still own your albums? The vinyl kind? I still have all of mine. Something about the huge visage of Johnny baby on those big old Duran Duran album covers.... In fact sometimes I still play them, just so I can revel in every skip and pop and jump.

I am so weird.

Interesting you should ask.
When I was saved at 15,I threw all my records into the backyard and smashed them all by stomping on them.
It was symbolic of the transformation I just went through.
Old self into new self.
I had Iron Maiden,Sabbath,Motley Crue,Kiss,Ozzie,etc.
All bye-bye!
I was into the stuff in a dark way then.I practically worshipped these guys and their music.
Jesus saved me from all that.
I was so happy with my new-found freind that I wanted nothing more to do with that dark music.

This phase lasted about a year.
I was gungho Christian everything.
Was into Stryper and other Christian rock.
Then the newness of this change wore off.
I slowly began to listen to the old stuff again.
Before I knew it,I was back into the old routine.
Got even deeper into the lifestyle.
The drugs,drinking,sex,concerts.

I regretted trashing my record collection.

I'm an old man now.
I got a family of my own and now I'm careful what my own children listen to.
I don't drink or drug anymore, but my relationship with God is still a struggle.

I feel pretty young most of the time. I still feel like a kid. As a matter of fact, it sometimes stuns me that I'm actually an adult who gets taken seriously!

Knight4God, it sounds like you went through a similar thing as my husband except he was into the punk scene. He did the same thing as you- smashed his records- and then a year or so later he was back into the scene harder than ever. It took him over a decade to come back to Christ. I feel for ya.

My hubby did the same. Took all his cassettes, threw them in a big black garbage bag and dumped them.

You do? I have to keep reminding my husband that he's not 18 anymore (he's 37). And me...I feel about 25 inside. My age sometimes even surprises me when I think about it. Where does the time go?
