  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

seems like such a long time ago...

Sometimes it does seem like a long time ago, but many times I can hear a song from one of these bands, and it takes me right back, almost like it was just yesterday.

Y'all definitely like music of your average 30+ something, but thats because we were teenagers in the 80's perhaps.

I wasn't a christian then and listened to mostly satanic music so I don't have much of a 80's interest in music.

This is what I like now:
Relient K (My favorite band, they are so cool and funny, and serious too).
Hangnail
Son of Dork
Fightstar
Superchic[k]
Everyday Sunday
Tait
DC Talk
Third Day

I started getting into CCM music when I was about 13 years old -- during my teen years, my favorites were Amy Grant, Kim Boyce, Crystal Lewis, Michael W. Smith and anything of a dance/hip-hop nature. Naturally, I had a deep-down desire (even though I was very shy) to fit in with my peers at the time, so I went through this phase where I absolutely hated anything with a country sound, believing it to be "geeky" and "unhip" at the time. That was a far cry from today, because now I enjoy nearly every style of music there is, country included.

Prior to the age of 13, I didn't know about CCM. The music that influenced me then was children's gospel records (such as the Psalty collection) and mainstream (non-Christian) pop music.

I also liked Stryper! I heard not to long ago that they were doing a reunion tour...They were soooo cool because the drummer taught me how to apply eyeliner correctly at the Dove awards one year..very odd because he was a guy but cool because he was a GUY.

Styper is doing a reunion tour, they have a new bass player, the rest of the band is the same.

I went and saw them in Boise a month ago. The concert was flat out awesome!! They played songs from every album including the new one...Reborn. That is a good CD too...the freshest remake of Amazing Grace I've heard.

Anyway, They wore jeans and nice shirts, and they didn't have long hair any more. Micheal prayed at the end of the concert what I think was a very heart felt and genuine prayer of salvation. Only God knows how many people accepted Christ that night.

All the music is STILL perfectly unison from drums to guitars (Oz is the greatest!!) to the bass. I loved the concert!! I couldn't hear anything for 36 hours afterwards!!

And oh yeah, Michael can still do the screams

With the lyrics and the prayer offering after the concert I th8ink Stryper is STILL a genuine Christian band.
