Oh please they admitted they are coming for them. This isn't just about being nice. Don't be a denier of reality. If you already taught your children kindness, caring, and empathy, the gays aren’t “coming for” them. You’re triggered for no reason.
Oh so the truth is now paranoid nonsense huh? Seems like denial of reality is the term for the day. These allegations are exactly the kind of paranoid nonsense that prompted the OP song to be written. It’s like I said: you can pull up a handful of articles citing parents suing schools for alleged involvement in gender counseling, but that doesn’t actually speak to the contention that lgbtq people are somehow predatory or evangelical, or “coming for your children.” You can’t provide evidence for that because it’s not happening at any significant scale.
I think it was @BPPLEE who asked me if I knew anyone who was transgender or gay when I was growing up. I didn't, because anyone who was would have been too frightened to let it be known. They'd be scared of the mockery, the cruel barbs. And the violence. And why all that? Because me and the rest of my peers were ignorant. It wasn't a matter for discussion in polite company. Normal people didn't discuss them. Because they were abnormal. No it's teaching kids to question their genders.
You can teach children to be kind and accepting of others without going into intimate details about their sexuality. Why is there so much focus on children?I think it was @BPPLEE who asked me if I knew anyone who was transgender or gay when I was growing up. But now we teach tolerance, not intolerance. We teach kindness, not cruelty. We teach acceptance, not rejection. And those we rejected from society are now part of a better society. But you? You want to go back a couple of generations. Let's keep it quiet. Our children don't need to know about...this kind of person. We need to keep it from them. We need to keep them ignorant.
But do you think that anyone is teaching values? Other than 'You might find that there are people different to you but they must be treated with respect'.Parents are free to teach their values to their children.
What on earth is wrong with “You might find that there are people different to you but they must be treated with respect” ?But do you think that anyone is teaching values? Other than 'You might find that there are people different to you but they must be treated with respect'.
Look at it this way; No-one is allowed to promote homosexuality in the forum. So be it. But that doesn't mean that the subject is taboo. It can still be discussed because it's a fact of life. In the same way, I'm certain that being gay (or transgender) is not being promoted in schools. It's being discussed as a fact of life.
Now, if you find someone, somewhere that has overstepped that line, then you are not just free to complain, but you are obliged to do so. But I'd suggest that any example that you find is an exception.
Too often we see in these threads the attitude that being gay (or transgender) is simply wrong and that children must not be taught about things that are wrong. Some people want to claim the right to teach their children that it's unacceptable and that telling them that it's entirely normal is against their beliefs.
I'd suggest that most people would even baulk at your reasonable suggestion that it should be age appropriate (which is something that will be different for every parent).
So a couple are thinking about enrolling their child in a local school. They have a meeting with the headmaster.Funny just this once you're correct
We'll convert your children
Make them tolerant and fair
They'll start finding things online
Someone's gotta teach them not to hate
We're coming for your children
You're kids will start convertin you
We'll make an ally of you yet.
Nothing is wrong with that. It is a start, but not an education. How does the teacher answer the obvious questions that such a statement of fact will elicit? With silence? With 'I am not going to answer that. You will have to ask somebody else'?What on earth is wrong with “You might find that there are people different to you but they must be treated with respect” ?
That's where 'age appropriate' comes into it. But as I said, no-one is going to agree on a specific age for a specific topic. But just because it's difficult doesn't mean it can't be discussed. You can teach children to be kind and accepting of others without going into intimate details about their sexuality.

'Yes, you're certainly correct, in this school we teach children that tolerance and fairness is to be expected. Let's face it, with the access to the internet these days they'll find all sorts of views that promote just the opposite. And it's our responsibility, for us as teachers, to ensure that they get the information they need to make informed decisions. So we'd welcome your child and we'd look forward to helping to ensure that she grows into the sort of person of whom you'd be proud. And to be honest, I find that the children here can often teach us a thing or two about how we should treat others.'
Well, cross that school off the list! They admit to the indoctrination of the children! The horror...
Not even close to what we are talking aboutSo a couple are thinking about enrolling their child in a local school. They have a meeting with the headmaster.

The proper answer for an elementary school teacher is “That’s something you should talk to your parents about.”Nothing is wrong with that. It is a start, but not an education. How does the teacher answer the obvious questions that such a statement of fact will elicit? With silence? With 'I am not going to answer that. You will have to ask somebody else'?
In some households the 'somebody else' will be somebody ill-equipped to answer. For many children the questions will be answered in the playground by other children - who know just a little bit more, or think they do.
Children have a right to expect better than that.
Then give parents the option to opt outThat's where 'age appropriate' comes into it. But as I said, no-one is going to agree on a specific age for a specific topic. But just because it's difficult doesn't mean it can't be discussed.
Nothing. But left hanging there just as a stand alone statement would do nothing except instill confusion. Different? In what way? Who does she mean? Can we tell? Is there someone in the class she's talking about? What is this difference? What on earth is wrong with “You might find that there are people different to you but they must be treated with respect” ?
You can teach children to be kind and respectful to all races without explaining pigmentation, DNA and the origins of the different races.Nothing. But left hanging there just as a stand alone statement would do nothing except instill confusion. Different? In what way? Who does she mean? Can we tell? Is there someone in the class she's talking about? What is this difference?
You obviously, I would have thought, need to explain exactly who is being talked about. In an age appropriate way. As in 'some children have two mums' or similar.
It's exactly what the song was saying written as a conversation. There was no difference whatsoever. But one is said by the head of a school, so that's ok. And one is sung by some gay guys, so that's not. One is education. And the other? Well, that's indoctrination. Not even close to what we are talking about
If it’s the same message it’s indoctrination, it’s just camouflagedIt's exactly what the song was saying written as a conversation. There was no difference whatsoever. Really? You can explain racism without literally pointing out that other 'races' are no different to your own?You can teach children to be kind and respectful to all races without explaining pigmentation, DNA and the origins of the different races.
The same applies
