^^ Greatest Hits albums and movie soundtracks? Pitiful, ps139... :p

Here's some of mine, which are completely subject to change, most likely when I hear an album I think is better than these 10...

Radiohead- OK Computer (1997)
Miles Davis- Kind of Blue (1959)
The Velvet Underground- White Light/White Heat (1968)
The Velvet Underground- The Velvet Underground and Nico (1967)
Patti Smith- Horses (1975)
Neutral Milk Hotel- In the Aeroplane Over the Sea (1996)
Sonic Youth- Daydream Nation (1988)
John Coltrane- A Love Supreme (1964)
Van Morrison- Astral Weeks (1968)
Pere Ubu- The Modern Dance (1977)

And an honorable mention to Miles Davis' In a Silent Way (1969), which is growing on me and might crack this top 10 sometime.

Yes,Absolutely,I love all Van The Man's music.........

"We were born before the wind
Also younger than the sun
Ere the bonnie boat was won as we sailed into the mystic
Hark, now hear the sailors cry
Smell the sea and feel the sky
Let your soul and spirit fly into the mystic"

Hahhha I knew I'd probably take some flack for that.

Name me a better Creedence album. (Which will be easy since I dont know any). Name me one that is better than the greatest hits. Its one of my most listened to CDs.

Last of the Mohicans soundtrack is some of the prettiest music I've ever heard. Its not your average "motley collection of pop songs" soundtrack.

And Morricone's work on the GBU soundtrack is just mind blowing. It can stand on its own as one of the top 10 albums. Beautiful, moving music.

Actually the one CD I have that is my #1 "must-have" is not listed here because its not your average CD. When I get more time (Im at work now) I'll reveal its secret identity. But I think it is the best CD ever made, but I doubt anyone here has heard it. (Except Cosmic Charlie :)) Keep waiting in suspense :p

Props to cygnus and the rooster for liking Van Morrison. Moondance is a great album too (and "Into the Mystic" is my favorite off that one, or maybe "Caravan"), but Astral Weeks is much better IMO.

And I was just messin' with you, Bill. That CCR greatest hits album is really something (it's called "Chronicle, Vol. 1" right?); I think it might be the best greatest hits album of all time. They are a singles band, so they are the perfect band for the greatest hits treatment.

My must-have albums?

Steve Hillage-- Rainbow Dome Musick
Shpongle-- Are You Shpongled?
Gong-- You or Angel's Egg (can't decide)
Pink Floyd-- Obscured By Clouds
Tortoise-- Millions Now Living Will Never Die (Japanese release)
Can-- Future Days
Ben Harper-- Fight For Your Mind
David Hykes & The Harmonic Choir-- Hearing Solar Winds
Genesis-- The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway

hmmm, it's so hard to choose 10; I'll just leave it at 9 for now and maybe I'll think of another one later...

I've been meaning to get a few Can albums sometime, but I always forget when I'm at the record store, it seems like.
They're excellent... I'd recommend Tago Mago, Ege Bamyasi, or Future Days to start.

....And now I am going to look up Shpongle, just because their name sounds so cool :)
It is a wacky name, isn't it? :p
