Yeah ... what Beastt said.

You know ... I knew someone once who was a bit ... errr .... overweight. Climbing a flight of stairs was exhausting. OK, that's an extreme, but quite frankly, being fit and healthy means I can bike, hike, snow shoe, ski, run, etc. etc. further, faster and with less strain. Add to the fact that I just feel better overall, and don't feel like I want to take a nap after some exercise or some hard activity, conversely, I usually am pumped up.

Then ... add the fact that I plan on doing the bike race up Mount Washington next year adds some motivation ... less weight up means less work and faster speeds (though, I'll hardly be fast by any stretch of the imagination).

Being in an 'ideal' body weight range and consuming a healthy diet along with an active lifestyle decreases lifestyle related illness. Also, a person feels better about their appearance and how clothes fit etc.
Why do I maintain my weight? Besides the above, it suits my lifestyle. If I were too heavy, it would REALLY effect my job. It would make teaching cardio and yoga classes challenging (more challenging), and it would effect who hires (or does not) me as a personal trainer. I HAVE to be a good role model.
Excellent question, made me think a bit! God Bless, J

The reason I want to be thin is because I love the look of skin stretching over bones. Don't get grossed out lol. I like the shape. I think bones are beautiful and all the fatness of flesh ruins it. I like to see my collarbones and hipbones etc and see the way the skin stretches over it and you can see it's shape.

I'm not sure why other people want to be thin. There are a number of different reasons. I can only speak for myself. :)

Having tried the alternative, I'll say with confidence that many are.

And I forgot having to meet weight for competitions. At least that way I have one non shallow reason.

My boyfriend isn't thin. He's not fat either, but he's...big boned. Footy player ;) I see the inside.

I'm sorry, I guess a lot of girls are, but as they get older, the ones that are really special, see what's on the inside.

is it bad to want to look good? to god?
Noting of course that "gluttony" can describe far more than simply eating to excess, is there no such thing as the sin of gluttony anymore?

Methinks there is no such thing as gluttony anymore.

I wasn't going to post on this thread because I don't aspire to be "thin", but I do in fact work quite hard for other reasons and it just so happens the result of such endeavours makes me thin.

Why do I want to be fit?

I like the challenge
I like setting goals and accomplishing them
I like to do things that involve: agility, strength, endurance, etc.

Being at a healthy size, bodyfat is just overall more comfortable. One is physically able to do more, more easily than if you're bigger.

hi there! i like your quote
"Being different isn't so bad, as long as you have the guts and can take the hardships you'll face along the way. It's totally worth it....being the real you...living out your dream instead of living out someone else's dream." Doris Williams, 2004

what's your interapration of it?

i think God would want us to be healthy, not to thin nor to fat....could be wrong through......

as for me.....
the thinner the better, i like to be thin. makes me loook diffrent from the rest of the world.... makes me feel comfortable in myself. in my clothes, in my skin..... see should have stayed away.

First off, (((Denise))) I shouldn't have come either, but hey, we're here together

I don't think it's superficial or against God for us to like how we look! Sure, some people go crazy with botox, plastic surgery and other things, but if all you want to do is lose some weight to look good in your own eyes, there's nothing wrong with that. If it makes you a happier person, a healthier person, a more energetic or enthusiastic person, then that's great! It's not superficial at all, well in my opinion it's not. Even if it becomes an obsession. There's nothing wrong with wanting to look nice.

However, if it starts to ruin your life, or if it starts to lose your family or friends because of it....then maybe that's going too far. Even if you are obsessed with weight (like I am) you can still juggle that plus family/uni/work/friends etc. But if you lose control, that's just bad for you.

It's complicated. My view is warped by my struggles. I guess what I am trying to say is that, in my eyes, there is nothing wrong with wanting to look good. As they say, "Look good, feel good". :)
