I like "All Creatures of Our God and King," mainly because it has a pretty tune. :p

I also like "Abide With Me" and "Out of the Depths."

Draw Us to Thee"
by Friedrich Funcke
Translated by August Crull, 1845-1923

1. Draw us to Thee,
For then shall we
Walk in Thy steps forever
And hasten on
Where Thou art gone
To be with Thee, dear Savior.

2. Draw us to Thee,
Lord, lovingly;
Let us depart with gladness
That we may be
Forever free
From sorrow, grief, and sadness.

3. Draw us to Thee;
Oh, grant that we
May walk the road to heaven!
Direct our way
Lest we should stray
And from Thy paths be driven.

4. Draw us to Thee
That also we
Thy heavenly bliss inherit
And ever dwell
Where sin and hell
No more can vex our spirit.

5. Draw us to Thee
Unceasingly,
Into Thy kingdom take us;
Let us fore'er
Thy glory share,
Thy saints and joint heirs make us.

The Lutheran Hymnal

. All that I was, my sin, my guilt,
My death, was all my own;
All that I am I owe to Thee,
My gracious God, alone.

2. The evil of my former state
Was mine, and only mine;
The good in which I now rejoice
Is Thine, and only Thine.

3. The darkness of my former state,
The bondage, all was mine;
The light of life in which I walk,
The liberty, is Thine.

4. Thy Word first made me feel my sin,
It taught me to believe;
Then, in believing, peace I found,
And now I live, I live!

5. All that I am, e'en here on earth,
All that I hope to be,
When Jesus comes and glory dawns,
I owe it, Lord, to Thee.

The Solid Rock is my favorite hymn, I was at a conference with my youth group, and I was going through some rough times right before that. And there was this girl who was singing that hymn so loud and with so much spirit, and the words really comforted me. I fell in love with the hymn right then.

:preach: I don't have a favorite hymn because there a lot of different hymns and they all have different feelings that they give you, so it would be too hard for me too choose.

I share the same sentiments.

Here is one that I love, but I haven't heard it in many years.
You can hear a midi of the tune here: http://my.homewithgod.com/heavenlymidis/songbook/angels.html

Ten Thousand Angels
Words and Music by Ray Overholt

They bound the hands of Jesus in the garden where He prayed;
They led Him thro' the streets in shame.
They spat upon the Savior so pure and free from sin;
They said, "Crucify Him; He's to blame."

  • Refrain
    He could have called ten thousand angels
    To destroy the world and set Him free.
    He could have called ten thousand angels,
    But He died alone, for you and me.
Upon His precious head they placed a crown of thorns;
They laughed and said, "Behold the King!"
They struck Him and they cursed Him and mocked His holy name
All alone He suffered everything.
  • Refrain
    He could have called ten thousand angels
    To destroy the world and set Him free.
    He could have called ten thousand angels,
    But He died alone, for you and me.
When they nailed Him to the cross, His mother stood nearby,
He said, "Woman, behold thy son!"
He cried, "I thirst for water," but they gave Him none to drink.
Then the sinful work of man was done.
  • Refrain
    He could have called ten thousand angels
    To destroy the world and set Him free.
    He could have called ten thousand angels,
    But He died alone, for you and me.
To the howling mob He yielded; He did not for mercy cry.
The cross of shame He took alone.
And when He cried, "It's finished," He gave Himself to die;
Salvation's wondrous plan was done.
  • Refrain
    He could have called ten thousand angels
    To destroy the world and set Him free.
    He could have called ten thousand angels,
    But He died alone, for you and me.

Amazing Grace is my favourite hymn at all times.

When I was at a moment of desperation and sadness, the Lord spoke to me through His Amazing Grace.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Amazing grace, how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now I'm found
Was blind but now I see
Amazing grace, how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now I'm found
Was blind but now I see
Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come
'Twas grace that brought me safe this far
And grace will lead me home
When we've been there ten thousand years
Bright-shining as the sun
We've no less days to sing God's praise
Than when we first begun
Usually, whenever I am singing a hymn, I think, "Oh, this is my favorite hymn!" I really, really love hymns. For me, through hymns is how I best worship God. But for my absolute favorite, I have to choose "How Great Thou Art". Just the words in the title really say it all! It brings tears to my eyes about every time.
We have lots of folks who love hymns here. Thank you for helping my review. Its hard to pick a favorite. As a class I love the great classic English Hymns like Guide me O Thou Great Jehovah. With soaring harmonies and a great text, it is very uplifting.
However the music of my soul is the American Gospel Hymn. The first I ever sang, "Standing on the Promises" is still a favorite. "It is well with My Soul" is high on the list. All most any gospel hymn that reminds me that I have a Saviour who is sufficient to meet my needs is good- Amazing Grace is the classic here, but my all time favorite favorite is an early Americian tune (Beach Spring) to the text "Come ye sinners poor and needy weak and wounded sick and sore Jesus ready stands to save you full of pity, love and power. Each verse has a different text in the refrain. The last is "none but Jesus, none but Jesus can do helpless sinners good."
There is one other hymn that stands out for the chorus, its English and I can't remember the title, but the chorus is:
"I need no other argument
I need no other plea
It is enough that Jesus died
and that He died for me"
Amen to that and God bless you all for posting.
Oh, I love that one also. It is "My Faith Has Found a Resting Place".
"open the eyes of my heart"
There were 3 people to be baptised including me but the girl chose my fav song so i was abit annoyed. So i listen out in church n heard this song "open the eyes of my heart" it was really upbeat and has an awesome tune, made me feel good. so i decided tht song for my baptism. Anyhoo the week before it we were at church 9am for worship before we started our community service thing. People were praying aloud n i felt like i was dozing off n mentally slapped myeslf and said no wake up!! so in my head i prayed...Lord refresh me, bring the holy spirit into me. And after the prayers they played that song and i immediatly woke up n felt a sudden rush of adrenaline as the holy spirit was in me. I cried of joy a raised my voice i'd never felt that way before it was incredible!! So that is definately my fave song.
