What are your favorite hymns and why?

I don't have a favorite hymn because there a lot of different hymns and they all have different feelings that they give you, so it would be too hard for me too choose. I'm just curious about what you think is the best.

I love the hymn "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace". I just love singing them and hearing them sung by others.

I have two favourites.

The first, is 'Come Thou Fount'. Not only does it have a neat melody and it's nice to sing,the words are just wonderful! (if only we sang the second verse more..you NEVER hear it!)

Oh wow! I love this hymn! I also like Amazing Grace, How Great Thou Art, Great is They Faithfulness, and And Can It Be mainly because of the message of the songs.

I think my favorite is "The Old Rugged Cross" I have always really liked this one.

Abide with me, because it shows with words and music the right attitude to the world and dependence on God.
Jesus Lives, thy terrors now... to the music "St. Albinus". A great hymn of celebration of the resurrection.

Wonderful Grace Of Jesus was written by Halador Lillenas. It's too bad that this is the only one of his beautiful hymns that make it into most hymnals. I love most all of his hymns, yet many people have heard only this one.

I'm drawn to sullen hymns and songs-I really like the Dies Irae movements of Requiem Masses by various composers like Verdi. They are very beautiful and moving. Day of Judgement! Day of Wonders! is a favourite. I like Abide With Me because it is a sullen song that would be well-suited to a funeral.

I also like Irish hymns like Saint Patrick's Breastplate and Be Thou My Vision because I'm part Irish and I was born on St. Patrick's Day Eve .

Amazing Love-the best rendition I've heard is found here.

I also really like Afircan-American spirituals like We Are Climbing Jacob's Ladder. Let Us Break Bread Together, Swing Low Sweet Chariot, Deep River, etc., etc.

There are tons of more favourites of mine, and it would take me all day to list them all.

There are so many wonderful Hymns that it is extremely hard to narrow down to one Hymn my favorites are Nothing but the Blood of Jesus, Power in the blood, and Amazing grace.
These songs reflect that he loves us. that no matter what life throws our way we can over come it, if we look to him.
