• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

My daughter knows a woman with dairy allergies. Her husband figured he could cure it that way. Over a couple of years she kept getting sicker and sicker. She was at the doctor for all kinds of things over and over. When she finally figured out what he was doing, she got better.

My granddaughter showed signs of a dairy allergy at birth, but since she also showed signs of allergy to soy and rice, we stuck with the lesser symptoms. Big mistake! She got used to the dairy, but we didn't relaize what it was doing to her inside. It was causing other problems that we did not realize were linked to allergy. In grade 1 she missed about half her school days. After keeping her dairy free (among many other foods) last year in grade 4 she missed 1 day of school.

My mom showed an allergy to oatmeal as a child. Her parents made her eat some every day. It went away for many years, but now it is back worse and with more allergies to go with it.

Sorry I am up on a soapboax, but food allergies have really altered my family. Epi-pens, Benedryl and other antihistamines.

Believe it or not my granddaughter is allergic to the children's antihistamines as well. Poor kid had to learn how to swallow pills by grade 2.
WoW.. You have alot of allergies in your family. Yeah, my treatment was doctor reccomended becuase it was not the dairy I was allergic to (I could drink milk from goats) It was some other enzyme in cow milk that I could not have but now can have.

One of my daughters could drink milk fresh from the cow but if it was processed for sale she would have a seizure within an hour of drinking it. The naturopath has her off all dairy. She still has siezures but they don't appear to be triggered by foods anymore.

Walnuts are true tree nuts whilst peanuts are in the legume family.

Anyone with a severe peanut allergy is liable to have problems with other legumes (beans, peas lentils) as it is a differant protein to that in true nuts.
Some poor souls are alergic to treenuts and legumes.

Makes perfect sense to me. Peanuts are not nuts. They are in the legume family. Usually if you are allergic to nuts the only reason you cannot have peanuts is because of cross contamination. I have that problem.

If walnuts are a problem you should also avoid butternut, hickory nut, and pecans.

If almonds are a problem you shoudl also be aware that the seed of the apricot, cherry, nectarine, peach, and plum coiuld be a problem. I have to cut into the fruit first to make sure the pit is not cracked.

Filbert and Hazelnut are both in the birch family so if you are allergic to them the tree you have a problem with could also be in that family. Birch and Alder.

Just some info.

I have a celiac
I'm alergic to wheat and flour and dairy products and if l have any of these products l can die. Its very common now if you are suffering from stomach cramps and going to the bathroom all the time and throwing up then you could have it. Stomach cramps came later so if you feel sick like always on the toliet try to limit your flour and wheat products and dairy for a week. I did that and l found out l had it

But I am on day eight of a serious case of Hives. Luckily, the drugs have finally stopped the attack, but I'm a dizzy babe today. I wouldn't be able to walk in a straight line.

I am having one of those days too. I have been sleeping on the couch (losing sleep) in order to avoid hives, but I get them anyway. So I gave up and slept in my bed. This morning I had a doozy of a break out in hives. I am still dizzy. The Benadryl took it down, but my throat was starting to swell before I got the Benadryl.
Several years ago the allergist told me that it was combinations of foods and things. Now (without his help) I have come to realize that it is always at this time of year, so I checked to see what is in season.

Tree nuts!

I have always been alergic to them, now I am suffering just being around the trees at harvest time.
