  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What are you working on now?

I know. They dry out too quickly for me sometimes though. But I did learn a trick, if you mixed paint together to make a certain color, put that color you mixed together in a container with a lide and the paint won't dry out for a LONG time, so if for some reason you need that color again for the project you are working on , you just open the container and start painting.

I have one of those stay wet-pallets. Also I learned a trick from somewhere on the web. Take an empty hairspray bottle and fill it with water to mist your paints. Hair spray because of how fine the mist is. A regular water spray bottle has to big of a spray.

Celticflower right under your character name it says: Charity crocheter - what type of crocheting do you do for charity?

I make blankets, hats and stuffed animals for children for a group called Project Linus. The chapter I work thru is located in Knoxville TN.

I also make prayer shawls which are ditributed thru the church's prayer ministry.

Thank you for the compliments on my necklace, ladies.

Missmsdancearama ~

I have a website and I also do trunk shows with the jewelry I make. I do a lot of custom work as well. Right now I'm working on a wedding set for a young lady on these forums and I'm also working on a bracelet for a lady in the UK.

What does tis group do? Do you also sell them at craft shows?

Project Linus is a 100% volunteer effort to provide blankets (and other items) to children in stressful or traumatic situations. Many of the blankets are given out at hospitals, but also at shelters, crisis centers, funeral homes etc. Chapters exist throughout the US and around the world. The chapter I am involved with also does red, white and blue afghans for TAPS (a military family support group) and donates to a group called Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep - a volunteer group of photographers who take portraits of little ones who pass before or shortly after birth. They like to use handmade blankets to wrap the child in so they look like they are sleeping. The blanket is then offered to the family along with the photo as a rememberance of the child.

Project Linus has been involved with the relief efforts like after Katrina and often makes blankets available to school where shootings have occured (like Columbine). Blankets are always given free of charge and include a small tag with the image of Linus and his blankie (graciously given to the group by Charles Schultz) that say "Made just for you by Project Linus" (the wording may have changed -- I haven't seen the labels myself).

I was wondering if you made any blankets with the puzzle peices for autism. Our chapter for autism is always looking fo ways of doing fundraisers. My daughter made a pin with ribbon and a regularpuzzle peice attached to the bow. We sell them at our meetings and other places. We also made a calendar of our kids and their friends and stories about them. I was just wondering if you have every done something like this.

Here's a puzzle afghan from lion yarn: http://cache.lionbrand.com/patterns/30040AD.html

I'm not sure about selling it because it would be copyrighted (you need to create a free account to access pattern) but you could always ask...and they seem to work with charities so they may be willing to give permission.
