  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What Are You Thankful For?

I am thankful for America, and freedom.

Watch documentaries or read commentary on North Korea, and you'll be absolutely sickened. I spent the latter half of my night doing this. They all truly believe Kim Jong Il is God as much as you believe Jesus is God, and they worship him as such. I haven't grit my teeth harder in years after seeing something so demoralizing.

This just makes me more thankful that we live in a free society where we are not forced from birth into indoctrination, and that we have the full right to question any religious rule. I know this sounds very brittle and atheistic, but I honestly have never been more appreciative of my freedom.

This includes Christians too. I'm thankful you're able to voice your opinion without the threat of torture and death. I cherish many of the same values you hold, most of them actually. But know that on the opposite side of this earth there are millions of people who truthfully worship the dictatorship of someone who has died over a decade ago, because they all believe he is God and everlasting.

Religion is a very dangerous idea, which is why I believe God would never involve himself in such a petty, uncivilized manner. As Einstein said, God does not play dice. Every major religion is a different side of the same dice. Logically and reasonably, if God exists he has nothing to do with religion.

I'm thankful for the opportunity to voice myself, and I'm thankful for anybody with the freedom to respond. God bless :)

I'm thankful for the life I am allowed to live each day as it comes. And I'm thankful for my ability to learn how to follow Christ and be allowed by grace to live forever with God. I'm thankful for being free to have 1000s of pages from the Bible without being thrown into prison or being persecuted (much; I'd still read the Bible even if those were the case). I'm thankful I can learn about other religions without being forced to believe one. I'm thankful to have an opinion not forced by the government. I'm thankful that fame is fleeting and being able to believe that eventually, those people will realize Kim John Il was merely a viscous ruler who was not worth worship. I'm sure Christians and non-Christians alike can agree the worship of dictators is idolatry and false. (since dictators aren't worth worship)
I'm thankful that people are allowed to disagree with me without forcing their views on me with the alternate option of death (similar to Stalin sending people to Siberia or killing them if they didn't agree)

Emphasizing thanks is not bad, it's just improving awareness of all that you can be thankful for. This doesn't mean see what great things have happened in your life or conditions that you have that is good (ie a job, a house, etc) and taking it for granted every other day. It should keep us from taking our blessings for granted. Ps. Kudos for beig thankful every day!

I am no more thankful on Thanksgiving than I am on any other day of the year. By emphasizing my thankfulness on Thanksgiving, it suggests that I'm not being as thankful every other day of the year.

Says the brain in a jar.

You can take a day to emotionally appreciate and bring to attention all of the things you're thankful for and put them into perspective. I'm too busy in my day-to-day life to spend hours reflecting on just exactly how fortunate I am. The family getting together to have a nice meal and express why we're thankful simply resonates better than sitting alone "thinking" about it daily.

Unfortunately this isn't a reasonable belief. KJI died, was mourned, and now his son is worshiped as Kim Jon Il incarnate.

*human dictators I think you mean to say ;)

It will get worse for the NK's

Kim Il Sung The beloved leader actually had his stuff together as far as dictators go. He tried to pass all of this on to His son, and Kim Jong Il's efforts are the best this poor copy of his father could do after a literal life time of tutelage. Next they have Kim Jong Eun. He is a shadow of a bad copy of the original.. Because He has only recently been chosen to secede, he has a very minimal formal training. Although He has some how been appointed a 4 star general at 28 years old.

There are rumors that say China will not support this new Kim in the chain of leadership, and if this is the case... Then let it be said their is good a reason we are getting out of the middle east. We never ceased or signed a final resolution for the Korean conflict. Technically it is not over. We are just in a long standing cease fire agreement. that means we could make a move at a moments notice.

So what am i thankful for? The potential end to this families reign, over a nation of people, and a righteous God who will weigh and measure their deeds, and hold them accountable for all that they have done..
