The Way of a Pilgrim (anonymous Russian peasant, translated by Helen Bacovcin)

I love reading the humble pilgrimage of a Christian who isn't 'presumptious' or 'despairing' about salvation but instead is steadfast: what a gorgeous word: steadfast. Reminds me of St. Paul writing how he had not yet taken hold of the prize... and then so tired, he must have been so tired after all the years of his working for Christ..., about to be martyred, he wrote:

'I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.'
II Timothy 4:7

Three Philosophies of Life by Peter Kreeft

My husband and I are reading this together, today--he read aloud about Ecclesiastes and how vain, i.e. pointless life feels to those who do not have faith in God as Love, in Christ's Redemption.

The author refers to other sources including short stories like Ernest Hemingway's "A Clean, Well Lighted Place" to show the results of believing in 'nothing', and how this belief makes life unbearable as well as dangerous, because every person then decides for him or herself just what 'truth' means by selfish, 'temporary feel-good standards'.

The author talks about the various way non-believing people have for avoiding the truth of Eternity and their own despair without God:

It reflects modern man's ploys, and gives valuable warnings of the pitfalls found not only in the world, but within ones own heart if we are not watchful, prayerful, humble...

COLD CASE CHRISTIANITY by J. Warner Wallace :) This is an awesome book!

Written by an L. A. County homicide detective and former atheist, Cold-Case Christianity examines the claims of the New Testament using the skills and strategies of a hard-to-convince criminal investigator.
Christianity could be defined as a “cold case”: it makes a claim about an event from the distant past for which there is little forensic evidence. In Cold-Case Christianity, J. Warner Wallace uses his nationally recognized skills as a homicide detective to look at the evidence and eyewitnesses behind Christian beliefs. Including gripping stories from his career and the visual techniques he developed in the courtroom, Wallace uses illustration to examine the powerful evidence that validates the claims of Christianity.

I am reading Fibs, Lies and Scripture by John Philip. It doesn't match my views of Scripture, but is thought-provoking and it never hurts to hear what other people think so long as one is well-grounded oneself. I got it from Smashwords, but I think it's on Kindle as well.

I just started reading Understanding End Times Prophecy by Paul Benware. Prior to that I read an intersting little book entitled, The Early Jesus Movement and It's Parties, by two brothers, Harry and Paul Eberts. In between the two I re-read for the second time The Canon of Scripture by FF Bruce.

I have no reservations recommending all three.

Blessings.
