I'd go for something with a blue-ish tinge.

Mind you, first house husband and I lived in, his mother made some decorating choices before I moved in.... the very bright blue feature wall in the bedroom was something I found hard to live with!

I fell pregnant. (I was married). And I was very sick, expected to lose the baby, and basically they wouldn't work with me to give me the flexibility I needed. I got this email saying (hang on, I still have it, I'll quote it for you): "The situation is that you are formally and fully on leave from candidature for a period of eighteen months. That means that you are not a student of the Theological School for that period of time and are not eligible to attend the [various formational activities]. (Chapel prayers and eucharist, of course, are public gatherings). ...you cannot be regarded as a student of TCTS."

They didn't even discuss it with me first. Just sent me an email out of the blue, that said something completely different to what I thought the situation was.
Wow. That is terrible.

Totally unbelievable.

Wow, I guess their theology stayed on the academic level, and forgot to go to the human level.
True of a lot of Christendom; unfortunately. In many cases, of Judaism as well.

I know only of a couple of Messianic seminaries, and to my knowledge they have not had female rabbinic candidates yet. But we are a relatively young movement. I have met at least one woman messianic rabbi, but her ordination was in Reform Judaism.

What I am doing at the moment:

Watching my wife drive off to Shabbat service. I am staying home; nursing a really bad sore throat.

Hot coffee is helping. So is cranberry juice.

What do you do for work, Toro?
Security on the executive side of oil production.

No dream job but God is using it to provide what I need at the moment so I am content.

I have not used Huion yet. I have a couple of old wacom drawing tablets, but one uses the serial interface, so not much use lately! Does the Huion perform well? They are usually a bit cheaper than Wacom and seem to have more options.

Are you going for a cell shading look once you start doing the color?

Yes, I’ve had this Huron tablet for over 2 years and it performs very well! I paid $60CND from Amazon and it’s well spent for what I use it for. I like that I can use the buttons on the side for quick zoom ins and outs, undo, etc.

I’ve cell shaded before but I’m trying to go for a more advanced look. Still trying to figure out the layering while colouring.

Yeah, I saw your piece over in the visual arts section, and it had more of the smooth shading.

Do you use a lot of transparent layers to build up, or just use layers to address different sections?

How much soft edge do you use when you shade? I started out with more soft and transparent brushes, but I sometimes benefit from working with harder edge brushes.

Digital is great in that you can adjust down to every little detail. And the layering is similar to a watercolor with the transparency, but you have a lot more control over the layers, and of course an undo button!

I mainly use the airbrush for all kinds of shading and highlighting. I have used a watercolour brush for shading and I might try it again with the second line art piece.

As for the layering, I’m still getting to know my way around that, lol. I’ve found that I very much dislike a lot of layers. Folders are so nice though. I use that for colouring. I use layers for basic colour for every separate detail (hair, skin, attire/accessories, etc), and use shading and highliting as different layers.

What’s your approach for yours?

It really depends. I have used transparent and soft brushes on some works, slowly (very slowly) building up slight differences in tone. Generally I use Corel Photopaint, similar to photoshop, with 89 or so transparency on the brush and 100 soft edge. Layers are important for adding shading, and you can use the transparency sliders on the layer to really blend in adjustments. Some of the results can be great, but you get really soft edges on most items, and it takes way too long. Here is an example of some of those:

The airbrush can be similar to the above approach, but I find it faster. This was airbrush:

I have been trying to do some more opaque works at times. They are faster by far. They are similar to an oil paint feel. These were done in Corel Painter with oils. It doesn't use layers or transparency as much. It just blends with the brush.

This used a mix of the two:

And then after taking a break for a while, and now coming back to things, I have had less time for digital painting. I have been doing more pencil and pen work again. But when I do a painting now I have been making a greyscale value underpainting first. Then I tint it in photopaint. This is quicker than my old style. Because you do the values first in greyscale you make sure you get enough contrast and form. If you want you can even do the greyscale in graphite and then tint it in the program from there. Which means you can do the majority of it in traditional, then only use the digital at the end. As I get older I find this works better for me as long hours of digital painting bother my eyes a bit.

Here is a small sketch I did recently as an example of the technique:

Those are really good! The cup of water and the crushed can would be quite difficult for me...kudos to you for being able to!

Yeah the layers I’m still trying to keep as little as possible, though I am liking this clip feature a lot. It helps me from going outside what I’ve coloured. Shading is much easier that way.
