What are you currently watching?

I will say I never really found Mel Brook comedies very funny.. even Young Frankenstein and Blazing Saddles (besides the Where are the white woman at? line.. lol).

Monty Python came out around the same time and while I find the TV show mostly overrated.. their comedy films were pure gold.. and haven't aged at all.

It will also probably be animated with some cheap computer program. *shudders*.

Not to worry. Most of the good classic animations of the 20th century are being 'cancelled' and the new ones will have so much politically correct content there won't be room for a story, so why bother. Enjoyment has been replace with self interest.

I'm sure this cancel culture and hyper sensitivity towards any hint of racism/sexism will pass.. in the long run.. a lot of these properties will come back. We're just in the midst of some hysteria..

Agreed...but hysteria lasts a long time. The last hysteria comparable to the MeToo, Cancel, etc movements was the McCarthy era. It is too bad it can't remain where it originated in the US but instead spreads around the world like a virus. I wonder if mandatory social media filters would flatten the curve.

Yeah it's going to last a while.. and get to a point where the population at large becomes disillusioned about it and the hysteria pretty much fades away overnight.

I do hope at least.. this hysteria provides inspiration for a new generation of artists. Who go on to create amazing work. Sadly I think art often needs something to rebel against or else it can become uninspired and lazy.

Exactly but like the language of some comedians it takes the easy route in pushing boundaries and just becomes juvenile.

Like the Crowder types. Still.. for a few people.. I think this atmosphere will take them further than they otherwise would.

Watched 'The Nun'. It's a movie based on a true story of a haunted castle that a priest and nun go to--to try to figure out if they can help the situation. It's Catholic based. Finally something entertaining, but not offensive.

It's really scary. I jumped a few times and I never jump at the movies. Plus, it stays interesting and doesn't have a dull moment.

HBO's Rome.

Have to say.. it might have been a magnificent empire in the ancient world.. but it caused untold suffering to millions of people. Can't imagine the sorrows people experienced.. imagine the romans invading your village and killings everyone you loved then sending you away from your homeland into a brutal life of slavery.

The roman senate or whatever scene makes me laugh.. a bunch of old men sitting around in bathrobes yelling at each other.. it's like they're at the sauna or something..
