The 7th-day Sabbath is the sign that we recognize as Sovereign the God who made the world in six days and rested the seventh day. It is the sign of God's creative and redemptive power.

Please read the entire chapter of Exodus 31. For what group of people was the seventh-day sabbath a sign?

The 7th-day Sabbath is a test of our loyalty. It defines our allegiance, who we are serving.

If it is, then it must also be salvational. I suspect that this might be "another gospel."

It is only the "shadow Sabbaths" in the old covenant that pointed forward to certain specific 7th-day Sabbaths in the new covenant in the future.

So Jesus Christ is not our rest? If this is the case, what do we do with Matthew 11 and Hebrews 3-4?

They were prophetic, while the 7th-day is not. The 7th-day Sabbath is not a "rehearsal", and it did not point to anything in the future, although it will exist for man through all eternity.

Upon what basis would we conclude that the sabbath exists for all of eternity? Are you making a reference to all of those dead bodies lying around; the place where we will keep all feasts that are based upon the moon?

The prophecies of Moses are the first written record showing the significance of the Jubilee. The ancient Bible Jubilee year is easily located in the Bible and in other ancient historical Hebrew records.


“In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established.” 2 Corinthians 13:1



The testimony of all three witnesses and more will be given to pinpoint the Jubilee year.



The Jubilee years were prophetic of two of the great events in the plan of redemption; the first day of Christ's public ministry at His first advent, and, also, “the day of vengeance of our God”, just before the second advent, see ([FONT=Times New Roman, serif]Isaiah 61:1,2[/FONT]).According to the prophecy which God gave to Moses in Leviticus 23 and 25, the Jubilee (in fulfillment) must be ushered in on a Day of Atonement and that day must be a seventh-day Sabbath. (The Jubilee calendar can be seen on the last page of this study).



This is precisely how Jesus fulfilled the first part of the Jubilee prophecy. In the proclamation of the Jubilee on the Day of Atonement, in the synagogue on the seventh-day Sabbath, Jesus stopped in the middle of the sentence, omitting the phrase, “and the day of vengeance of our God,” which was the last part of the same sentence that He was reading from the Jubilee prophecy of Isaiah 61. He closed the book and then proclaimed,



“This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.” Luke 4:21



“... as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up for to read. And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. The part of the sentence that He omitted applies to the “day of vengeance of our God:” which will be fulfilled just before He returns to earth for the second time.[/FONT]

This very statement got me started in the whole study of the topic under discussion (the Hebrew economy) about 31 years ago. I knew there was something there that I wanted to understand.

The experience of the Day of Pentecost, although it is one of the feast days related to the Messiah's first advent, will have another fulfillment near the end of time.

"In anticipation I rejoice that the scenes on the day of Pentecost will be repeated, and that indeed the power of the grace of God will be bestowed in a wonderful manner." {14MR 286.1}

"The gospel will be revealed and verified. The experience of the day of Pentecost will surely be repeated." Loma Linda Messages p. 144


From the following statement, there is more light yet to come on the Israelites' experience of the Passover and the great Exodus.


"We do not half understand the Lord's plan in taking the children of Israel from Egyptian bondage, and leading them through the wilderness into Canaan. As we gather up the divine rays shining from the gospel, we shall have a clearer insight into the Jewish economy, and a deeper appreciation of its important truths. Our exploration of truth is yet incomplete. We have gathered up only a few rays of light. Those who are not daily students of the Word will not solve the problems of the Jewish economy. They will not understand the truths taught by the Temple service. The work of God is hindered by a worldly understanding of His great plan. The next statement is right on point of what we will see and understand about the glorious Sabbath in God's plan of salvation.

"I saw that we sensed and realized but little of the importance of the Sabbath, to what we yet should realize and know of its importance and glory. I saw we knew not what it was yet to ride upon the high places of the earth and to be fed with the heritage of Jacob. But when the refreshing and latter rain shall come from the presence of the Lord and the glory of His power we shall know what it is to be fed with the heritage of Jacob and ride upon the high places of the earth. Then shall we see the Sabbath more in its importance and glory. But we shall not see it in all its glory and importance until the covenant of peace is made with us at the voice of God, and the pearly gates of the New Jerusalem are thrown open and swing back on their glittering hinges and the glad and joyful voice of the lovely Jesus is heard richer than any music that ever fell on mortal ear bidding us enter. [I saw] that we had a perfect right in the city for we had kept the commandments of God, and heaven, sweet heaven is our home." {Mar 245.2}

I'm not saying that. What I actually am saying is that there are 6 of the different kinds of Sabbaths that point to the 7th-day Sabbath. The 6 Sabbaths are all centered around the 7th day Sabbath similar to the 6 points around the center in the Star of David. The 7th-day Sabbath is the memorial of the creation of the earth, reminding us that God is the Creator. The Sabbath will exist through all eternity, as will man. It was made for man.

What you don't seem to perceive is that the sabbath was a shadow of God's rest, that remained as a promise for us to attain. We have that promise realized now, as Hebrews 4:10 states "For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His.". "Has entered" is a description of a completed act, and that promise wasn't realized during the ~1500 years the sabbath existed. Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it.

The sabbath isn't going to last through eternity.
In fact, the sabbath came to its end 2000 years ago.
As a component of the law mediated by Moses, there is no such thing as a sabbath once that law lost its claim on us. Christianity doesn't affirm a weekly sabbath, as we don't belong to the first covenant it was ordained in. We have God's permanent rest now, and it is superior to the sabbath - to borrow your expression, God's rest will last throughout eternity, as does God. It wasn't made at all, and His rest is conveyed to God's adopted children.

All Sabbaths could not be contemporaneous, there has to be a substance for a "shadow" to exist. It is impossible that the seventh-day Sabbath could be a "shadow" because a shadow cannot create a shadow. The Messiah, Himself, in His fulfillment of the "shadow" Sabbaths, clearly demonstrated that the seventh-day Sabbath was the substance that caused the shadow. He interpreted the "shadow" Sabbaths.

There must be an antitype for the instituting of a type.


"...for by the law [is] the knowledge of sin." Romans 3:20.

"I had not known sin, but by the law:" Romans 7:7.


These texts show that sin could not be defined unless God's ten commandments already existed before man fell into sin. In the old covenant the ten commandments were placed within the ark of the covenant. The ark of the covenant represented God Himself. Therefore, the very nature of God was shown by this placement of the tables of stone. This law is His heart and He promises in the new covenant to write that very same law (character) in our hearts.

"After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people." Jeremiah 31:33.
