A friend i have seems to meet people that do drugs all the time, but then i suppose she does nothing to change that. well we were on the phone, and she was telling me how she did oxycontin and i thought well, alright until she said they snorted it.... now i know it can become highly adictive when done like that, and she proceeds to tell me how it felt...oh i wanted to run right over there and join her.....i wanted that feeling so bad, i still do....i want that i do not care, everything is wonderful, life is great feeling, even if short lived......why won't it ever go away????

Well it seems you have a very uncaring friend. Sorry if that sounds harsh, but man that is rough.

I was addicted to pain killers and I don't know if I will every get to the point of not having cravings now an then. I set up a plan for what I am going to do when one comes on strong. If I did not put together plans for dealing with them, I am afraid I would relapse myself.

One suggestion is that when your friend or anyone wishes to discuss drugs in a way that glorifies their use then cut off the converstation in mid sentence. Tell them that you have to go or tell them you don't want to hear about that and get gone and get busy on something else. They may get their feelings hurt at first, but if they care for you at all they will learn that it is a subject you are not going to talk about an avoid it.

Also, a true physical craving only last between 5-15 mins. The rest is just mind games we play on ourselves. So get busy doing something -- anything -- to occupy your mind for a while. You will be amazed at how effective this can be for handling a craving.

Hang tuff, and remember that some people are not going to support your recovery. It is better for you to not have any contact with such people exspecially early on in your recovery. That is easier said than done, but I have seen people move and get new phone numbers because their old friends were just to much into the drug scene.

Any pain killers can become addicting. But you have to realize there are otherways to get that feeling that are permanent not temporary like a drug high is.

Try finding things that you are very passionate about... like for me it is music. I get a high just how you described from listening to live music. The key to it is to keep a positive outlook on everything, and you will always be happy!

And as for your friend, I am not one to judge people, because I myself am not perfect, but you could really use a more positive influential group of friends. Try joining some clubs or something where you interact with people who do not do drugs or can not.

It can and will go away. Keep doing the next right thing: continue to turn to God, pray, be open with the people in your support system (be it therapy, friends, N.A., or whatever) about what you're feeling, do with God's grace what you can to repair the wreckage of your life.

It's been many years since I've felt that way, so long that I don't remember when it was. We do change.

I know what you all say is true, but what a flashback, and a big one at that.....and i rally do not see her at all, she lives a diffrent life than i do, and i try to get her to change but i find the more i try to get her to change the more the OLD me comes out..... but i will be going away for a bit to deal with other issues in my life, nothing to do with drugs, and maybe then i will be able to see why these feelings still come out.......thank you all.....and be Blessed.
