They do not eat dust for it's food value, they use their tongue to take in small particals of dust for the Jacobson's organ. That is the way they smell.

Snakes take in molecules for sensory evaluation by the Jacobson's organ, not dust. And before you claim that molecules are just small particles of dust, I'll remind you that they are not. And before you claim that they do intake some dust, I'll remind you that most organisms do.
