The United Evangelical Brethern were very similar to Methodists and one of its founders (I don't remember names) was discipled by Methodists when he accepted Christ and another founder of the denomination participated in ceremonies making Francis Asbury the first Methodist bishop. I may be wrong but I think the Brethern were Scandanavian or German immigrants and it wasn't doctrinal differences that separated them from the Methodists but cultural differences.
A couple weeks ago a friend who attended a UM college told me she and the other students attended a UMC and the profs attended another one across the street. The one she attended was originally a UEB congregation and the reason there was another one across the street is because it was originally a Methodist congregation. Any way she mentioned there was a hat worn once a year with candles on it. She said it was reall cool.
