  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

We're all unique...

A question to evolutionists;

Why does every person on the face of the earth look completely different? If evolution were true, wouldn't all humans look and act the same, like all the other 'animals'? Hmm?

Been wanting to bring this up for awhile. :)

All animals within a single species do not look and act the same, where did you get this idea from? Genetic variety is a very good thing, as it allows populations to adapt to environmental changes. Genetic variety is the result of several factors, including recombination by sexual reproduction and mutations.

Well, the question should be to creationists. If we came from a single Gene pool of Adam and Eve, then it got Bottlenecked again to only 8 after Noahs Flood, why so much diversity in only 4350 years?

Ok, Yes I know the common creationist guess is that Adam and Eve somehow had every gene possible, and that and mutations from sin created diversity. :)

However, we do all look pretty similiar, and we act similiar too. Which is why you can sometimes look at someone and tell where they are from (because they look similiar to people from that area). People also have similiar personalities, which is why psychology can group certain behaviors.

However we do have diversity just like different animals have different looks and personalities. an interesting point is that many more inteligent animals, like Chimps and Dolphins do seem to exhibit their own rather complex personalities similiar to humans.

This diversity can come from mutations, and basic adaptations to the environment. Also, breeding with a large gene pool, can combine different traits to get different looks, Etc.

:)

Even idential twins have their own unique personality. The Father, Son and Holy Spirit share the same divine thought, the same divine attitude and the same divine nature. But they each have their own individual personality. We are all made unique, and yet God is going to fit and join us all together so that in Christ we will be one. We will be of one mind and one accord working together in God's love even before Jesus comes for us. Those of us who look up and await His coming.

they don't look the same. they only appear really similar to you because your brain has been trained to recognise human features. monkeys recognise monkeys, dogs recognise dogs, elephants re..... and so on.

when you work with animals you train your brain to recognise them, so any zookeeper will be able to tell you which elephant is which from a distance, wheras you probably couldn't identify them even up close, unless they had something really obvious.

Actually, humans have much less genetic variation then most other species. Facial differences are actually pretty minor. Take dogs for instance, pugs have much different faces then russian wolfhounds or beagles. Speaking of dogs, even amongst a certain breed you will find striking uniqueness of personality and appearance.

It can be difficult to "train your brain" to try and figure out just what does make people different. Esp if your looking at Asian people, where there really is not all that much difference. When I first went to Hong Kong, it took me a while to be able to tell the difference between the Chinese women and the Filipino women. There are well over 100,000 Filipino women who have gone to Hong Kong to work. Within a week or so, I did learn the differences so I could tell them apart.

When I went to San Diego it was very difficult to tell the Mexico women apart from the Filipino women there. That is a little bit easier, because the women from Mexico tend to be more full figured. They may have more spanish blood mixed in with them. But the Filipino can have a lot of spanish blood in them also, and there are women from the Philippines who look very latin.

Of course I joke with my wife, that you can always tell if you look at their house. Because the people from Mexico live in their garage, and the Filipino people use the garage to store all their junk in. Neither one of them actually park their car in the garage. My wife does not appreciate the humor behind that one.

Yeah I know of the story. However the destruction of the tower and story doesnt explain the diversity of genetics. Nor does it explain why the diversity seems to have been around before the Tower of Babel story.

(Then there is always the question of Why anyway :) )

The tower of babel only talks about man being confused wih different languages. This is just another example of how inconsisiant creationism is, you say you have to take Genesis literal, then you turn around and add things to the Bible and discard your literal interpretation when it's convenient.

That is a very good observation. In fact, it is a key observation that led Darwin to come up with his theory of evolution by means of natural selection. But he observed something slightly different. Not only are all humans unique, but all organisms in all species are unique. There are no two identical finches, nor two identical cows. This was known to herdsmen for thousands of years. They could tell which animal was which in their herd just by looking at them. And the always choose the strongest and healthiest to increase their stock with.
