  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

This saw a recent spotlight in the internet atheist community, so I figured I'd share it here as it's related to the conflict between creationists and knowledge. I recommend creationists and rationalists both check it out.
Why should we sit through 7 videos on a conflict between creationists and knowledge, when we've got you guys here routinely pointing that out to us?

Then don't watch it. It's your choice. I just think looking at the discussion from the outside might provide you with some insight. Keep in mind this is a discussion between prominent figures in biological science and the creationist movement.

In fact, it might be better that you don't watch it, as there have been claims of some people being turned away from the idea of creationism as a result of viewing this interview.

Oh my non-existant god. One minute, fifty seconds in on the second movie (started in the middle by mistake).

This woman... Is so incredibly stupid.

Speaking of transitional stages in human evolution:

"Evolutionists bear the burden for providing evidence for those of us who are not scientists to see it, and if the evolutionists had the actual evidence then it would be displayed in museums and not just illustrations."

They are in museums. Where does she think we would keep the bones? Has this woman ever even been inside a natural history museum? Or perhaps she's not even aware that actual bones, many of them, have been found? How could she not be, if she has access to google and more than two brain cells?

:doh::doh::doh::doh:

I can't watch this. I can't even listen to it. If there's any chance that being a moron is contagious, I think this could give me a fatal dose. I'm amazed that Dawkins can not only keep his cool, but can actually keep a straight face.

There's nothing like the willfully ignorant to whittle down my faith in humanity.

I'm actually trying to make my way through it, just because I don't have anything else to listen to at the moment, but I keep needing to stop every two minutes.

Do you ever feel like maybe just moving to Europe? I know the grass is always greener etc. and there are nut jobs over there too, but this particular pigheadedness just seems so endemic to the U.S....

Edit: 7:13 minutes into first video. Sooo bad. This is like binge drinking. Why am I doing this?

Edit: 10:03 She wants to see evidence of birds to mammals. I need to find a bigger thing to hit my head against.

Edit: 12:51 Philosophy is not a legitimate argument against facts!

Edit: 18:23 I never knew listening to another human being could make me want to throw up before. I'm completely serious.

I've seen these before, and I'm not surprised. Wendy Wright is a political figure and knows how to talk the talk. She is the head of an organization that is politically motivated to suppress, deny, etc. evolution, LGBT equality, and to an extent even woman's equality.

I don't think she is stupid, but a combination of willfully ignorant and bent on putting forth an agenda that she wants forced through, even if her stance would be harmful to others.

Ya -- I'll bet they said that about Frances Kelsey too, didn't they?

I remember I watched this before.

I couldn't watch it for long, the nonsense that the blonde airhead keeps coming out with is the kinda stupidity that makes me want to dent the wall with my head, over and over and over again until I'm unconscious and don't have to listen to her constant onslaught of irrational drivel.

I lol'd at the "making society a better place" and the so-called "moral laws of the universe." Even though I myself am, like you, Delphiki, a free-market libertarian, thus disagreeing with Dawkins about the ideal society, I laugh at the idea that a better society according to Wendy Wright is anti-gay, anti-lesbian, anti-womens' rights and anti-private freedom. It's one of the main problems I have with mainstream conservatives, who promote so little government involvement the economy, but promote so much in the private life, in areas of gay marriage, pornography, and other issues that are deemed "immoral" according to the bible. It's just plain hypocritical.

Notice how she consistently dodges the actual, found transitional fossils, including the multitude that Dawkins explicitly states by saying there should be more? obviously she doesn't understand the process of fossilization, which requires an extraordinary number of precise circumstances and happens one time in a million. I am actually surprised there are as many transitory fossils as there are, considering the conditions required for perfect fossilization.

Oh, my.

You watched it before, or you didn't?

You say you did; but apparently not for long?

I can't tell if you have watched it or not.
