We are having a well drilled in a few weeks - the Lord has put this on my heart for several weeks now - must be for a reason - Doing some research -

What are your thoughts on this?

The Bible speaks clearly about divination as being witchcraft. Don't understand this much and wondered why it would be against God's will if it is helpful, but it clearly says not to do it, in fact it says it carries a curse.

I believe it's a scientific fundamental on using dousing rods to find water. My uncle uses it all the time, when his ditch water runs underground or another direction. It's just the rods will cross, when no magnetic fields in the ground are detected, which is normally present, but can be interrupted by water.. Nothing witchy about it.

They used to use WOODEN sticks, which kinda kills the magnetic angle. Also, water current does not radically effect magnetic fields. This is occultic on the same order as ouija boards. Their pointers work the same way.

If you don't believe me about the magnetic field, walk around in the same area with a compass. A magnetic anomaly would disturb your normal readings.

Nice post. I don't believe that every water company is using divination to find water pipes. There is a scientific view on how it picks up pipes in the ground. We had our water pipes break during the San Francisco quake, and the water company came out and found them all with "metal" rods. Same thing used, to find water. Had to have a new septic tank dug up at my dads cabin, they located the septic tank in the same way. Yikes, watch out for those water company guys.. Not everything is of the devil. Sometimes we just need to learn about how it works.

Certainly, there are "active" metal detectors, but they have an electro-physical basis to them.

If water witching [for natural water supplies] had a natural basis to it, a robot could be made to do it, suspending rods from posts all over the property would show convergence. Further, if you drove a water-tank truck in their midst, they would all converge on it.

IOW, the process would be mechanically reproducible, which is NOT the case for dowsing.

Well I know my Uncle doesn't think there's any magic about it. Or that he has any powers what so ever. He believes it's a scientific phenomenon, that has to do with magnetic fields. All the farmers in the area has used it for years.

I do agree with you on the Ouija boards and such though.

This is the kind of "dowsing" I know about:

Thank you for the links. I have read this before. There are some that I could post that say many believe that it's a magnetic phenomena.. I would have to question if it does work, why wouldnt it require belief and a personal power of some sort for it to work. Which many people think it has nothing to do with occult or power. I'm just not too keen on jumping on the occult bandwagon yet if it's still being discussed on what is true and what isn't. After all it's only been 300 years since they hung people for being witches because they're prayers were answered, or brewed herbs, or they spoke in tongues, or threw some gun powder on a flame, and suddenly your into the occult. LOL.

Actually my dad has a very special instrument that can find oil and large bodies of water deep underground. There are only about 3 of these special machines in the entire world.

It does work but one needs a great knowledge of how to read the readings of it.

If you use it without the desire to attribute the practice and result to something outside of God, then it shouldn't be a problem. Everything that is bad, is a counterfeit of what is good. God can take what looks to be something that fellowships the dark side, and sanctify it for His own use. That's just 00.02 cents worth... :)

I don't think you can put this in the same class as ouija boards, because with ouija boards you know your trying to make contact with the supernatural. With a rod your trying to find out where water is, there is no law that says we cannot try to contact water. (as long as we are not trying to ask questions of the water) I believe this is scientific too.

I really don't know if dowsing is occultic or just a natural phenomenon, or just stupid...

However, In looking into this topic today I did find that water does appear to affect magnetism. I need to look into it further for verification but apparently water has what is called "diamagnetic" properties. Which means that when it is subjected to a magnetic field it produces its own, opposite magnetic field.
The diamagnetic property of water is fairly weak by comparison to other substances but in theory it could affect naturally occuring magnetic fields by disrupting or blocking them with its opposing magnetic field.

If that field were strong enough to move a wooden stick, it would be strong enough to affect a compass...

My brother, a devout Christian man, can find water underground with a couple of clothes hangers.

I saw it with my own eyes, years ago on the dairy farm that he partly-owned. They were looking for a line in the ground and he didn't even know that he could do it. My step-dad handed him the clothes hangers after bending them into rods and as my brother walked, the hangers would close in together as he came across the water line. We marked it and sure enough, we found the line precisely where the marks were.

My brother didn't go into some trance... his eyes didn't roll back in head... he didn't start muttering Latin and calling on demonic spirits to find the water for him...

He just held the clothes hangers outwards in his hands and found the water line...

wouldnt prayer for the holy spirit to help you work just as well?

How do we know that someone didn't pray that prayer along time ago, and was told, "go get two hangers and..."..... LOL. That maybe finding water was answered along time ago.
