• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have the most sad and frightening dreams and when they are like this, there is always water, and in a frightening way. I hate bad dreams with water in them, the feelings in this dream is so real and scary like there is no way out or good, it is doom and end. This one was me looking into the distant and the mountain caps were like toys but they had water spilling over them and this sense that the world was no good and about to end, and I had a sense of unworthiness and I was about to drown. Why do I have reoccuring frightening dreams about water. I have had them for about 10 or so years.

Reoccuring dreams always mean something substantial. I had a dream for at least 10 years over and over again - two of them really, but one was the primary - and they involved water. Someone told me that if you find the reason, they will leave. I did find the reason, and finally the dreams ceased.

From ExperienceFestival:

Water
Water is a very common but powerful dream symbol. Its meaning varies with the details and the mood of the dream. Water is a deeply spiritual symbol representing the "water of life" or the "flow of life." Large bodies of water usually represent our unconscious minds or/and soul experiences. Water symbolizes emotions (rough, smooth, clear, murky, etc.). Freud thought that since fluids are involved in sexual activities, at times, water in dreams has sexual connotations.

......clip..........

Water is a strong symbol in dreams because so often it is the exclamation point of the feelings in the dream. If other objects in a dream are relaxing, a bubbling brook through a meadow is more relaxing. If some symbols generate feelings of fear or anxiety, the tumultuous ocean creates the most anxiety. Water has symbolic, archetypal meaning in that it either provides life, or harbours mystery and danger. This is a reflection of our human experiences with water.

Further down article clip...........

Uncontrolled water will often create a sense of unease for a dreamer. Raging rivers, rapids and lakes without borders often reflect being out of control of one's circumstances. Still deep water, while sometimes refreshing, may also create unease. This is because of the murkiness or uncertainty of what lies below the surface.

It sounds like your subconscious is trying to tell you something. Are there other details of the dream that can help you understand?

I can't help any further with the reasons, but I know the trouble of those water dreams. I used to have night terrors combined with sleepwalking when I was younger.....I had so many recurring dreams about water and being trapped underneath. I think for me it has always been related to stress. I outgrew the night terrors, but not the sleepwalking....it still happens when I'm stressed about things. Getting to the root of the stress is usually the key for me. Anything particularly stressful or a change in stress level for you right now?
