Was Daniel written in two parts?

I have heard that the book of Daniel was written in two parts meaning that Daniel wrote his story and then someone else wrote the rest. I believe that Daniel wrote the whole book but I am wondering now.

We hear those kinds of things all the time. Look at the book of Psalms.... everyone thinks it was all written by David. Take a quick glance through the book and you will find other names listed. But all by the Holy Spirit.

I haven't checked into authorship (many times we do know the answers to questions) ... but I do know that some parts of Daniel don't appear in Bibles translated from the late Masoretic text instead of the older Septuagint.

The authorship as separate persons was meant to ‘prove' that the prophesies of the ruling nations weren’t prophesy at all but hindsight from a later date.

You could say Nebuchadnezzar was part author as well, see Daniel 4 "I thought it was good...."v2 and " I Nebuchadnezzar was at rest...." v4

The first poster said it, I'll say it again, it is still inspired work with all authority granted by God, and does not contradict anything in scripture.

We don't know the author of Hebrews, yet it is still part of scripture and holds authority to how we as Christians conduct ourselves and holds vital information for us.

The stories of Sussanah and the Elders, the prayer of Azariah, and Bel and the Dragon, are not found in the Hebrew/Aramaic version of Daniel, only in the Septuagint. Consequently Jews and Protestants exclude them as later additions.

The character of the writing also changes, from early chapters being written from the perspective of anonymity, and later from Daniel himself. This is why Daniel is treated as Ketuvim or writings by Jews, not as part of the Prophets. The argument that it is written by more than one author is well-supported, I think. It doesn't much matter though, if someone added on some tales about Daniel and court life onto a book on his prophecies. Besides, the whole book never claims an author as far as I am aware.

It was all written by Daniel. In the same way the four gospels have the words of others that they included, namely Jesus, its the same way Daniel can include words by others. Because it might be written in first person, it does not mean somebody else wrote it.

Parts of it are in Hebrew and other parts are in Aramaic.
