If you feel a little (or more than a little) anxious leaving the house without your phone, you’re not alone. According to a new survey by Reviews.org, 83 percent of Americans feel the same way. And if you feel a little embarrassed tweeting, texting, or otherwise using your phone while on the toilet, don’t: 70 percent of participants admitted to doing it. (Though you might not want to broadcast that fact.)

Only 1000 Americans adults took the survey, so it’s not a comprehensive study of all smartphone usage in the country. And if you vehemently maintain that you and all your loved ones would never scroll through Instagram on the toilet, we’ll believe you.

Continued below.

I’m not kidding. Walked into a women’s restroom the other day and the stalls were full. Walked past them and they have those openings you can see inside easily. Every single female was in there staring at her phone while doing her business! Lol

Texting in the toilet is probably the least of the problem...

Research has varied on just how many germs are crawling on the average cell phone, but a recent study found more than 17,000 bacterial gene copies on the phones of high school students. Scientists at the University of Arizona have found that cell phones carry 10 times more bacteria than most toilet seats.

Your Cell Phone Is 10 Times Dirtier Than a Toilet Seat.

A few months ago I caught a train to the city. I counted 12 people on the platform, and every single one of them (except myself) was fooling around with their phone.

My wife and I had a meal at a local cafe, and there was a young couple there as well. But they weren't talking to each other - they were on their phones doing whatever.

Mobile telecommunication is putting a barrier between people, and it's also intrusive. Years ago a truck driver would have a manifest, and he'd be trusted to go and do the job. These days they know where you are, how long you stopped for, what speed you're doing, and in some cases the camera in the cab sends live feeds to HO. If the driver picks his nose, it's all there in glorious technicolor.

While we're on the business of using mobile phones in toilets -

&&&&&&&&&

A man was in the public toilets and had just sat down when he heard a voice from the next cubicle saying: “Hi! How are you?”

Embarrassed, the man replied: “I’m doing fine.”

The voice said: “So what are you up to?”

The bloke got a bit irritated and snapped back “Just doing the same as you, sitting here! What do you think I'm doing??”

The voice came from next door came: “Can I come over?”

Getting alarmed he said "Most certainly not!!"

The voice paused then said: “Listen, I’ll have to call you back, there’s some idiot next door answering all my questions.”
