Actually, Iraqi Christians are protected quite well by the Baath Party due to its secular Arab nationalist ideology, which does keep religious extremism at bay. However, it is ironic that because of US led sanctions that Islam has become more prominent and the "one nation, one religion" voice has grown stronger amongst its Muslims.

In all seriousness, you don't really believe that Christian missionaries would be welcomed with open arms in Iraq, do you?

Yes, sure, they would have problem, but i don't think they risk much.

And that's not being bad welcomed that would make missionaries flee from the field, i hope !

Generally, Christianity is met with extreme hostility by Arab countries. The Qur'an refers to us as infadels. I could cite many cases where Christian missionaries were driven away, attacked and even killed by these people. Add to that, their hatred for Western culture, and you have a sure-fire guarantee of a suicide mission for the missionaries.

Yes, I agree, that's the general situation. But it seems that in Iraq it's not that terrible for christians.
