  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So I wanted to take a try at putting on muscle but I am worried about gaining weight the reason being that years ago i lost a substantial amount of weight ~100lbs so every time i see the scale go up its always tough to see and makes me go on short term diets to get back to a weight i'm comfortable with but right now i want to put on muscle and i know in order to do that i'm gonna have to bulk on top of some heavy lifting. So i guess my question is this how do i manage the future weight gain and not get scared or worried about it as i'm in the process of bulking?

Maybe try measuring your body with a measuring tape rather than checking weight?

Weight in and of itself isn't a bad thing. Muscle weighs more than fat. It takes a lot of fat to equal the same weight of 5 pounds of muscle.

There are healthy and lean athletic people who weigh more than I do, and I'm obese. Granted, I'm only 5'1", so it doesn't take as much body fat to make someone with my height obese as an average height or tall person.

You will inevitably gain mass if you put on muscle.

What would be important is you maintain or possibly reduce body fat ratio. This will not prevent weight gain unless you're also crazy about losing lots of body fat. This calculator will help:

I'm not very fond of dieting to lose weight. I'd rather lose weight on cardio exercises. Exercise is fun compared to dieting. My exercise is currently skating and swimming. It used to be cycling and running but skating and swimming is what's fun for me now.

Cardio exercises at some point can reduce appetite especially if you time your exercise in the morning before breakfast (before eating anything except water or black coffee-no sugar, no artificial sweetener). There are people who ironically gain weight and fat or don't lose weight at all when they start doing cardio exercises and that's because, they eat before exercise and then eat again right after exercise. If you do that, exercise will enhance your appetite and possibly make things worse.
