Waiting for the sun to set

Too long the day, too often, too short
Often a prison, often, resort
Painfully cold, suffocatingly hot
I closed my eyes, I saw a lot
Opened too long, blinded by light
High tides washed away the night
and then the dawn
I looked around, the world ran past
Tried to reach out but couldn't grasp
Angels came and angels went
Demons seemed to be heaven sent
The music played, I danced in the dark
I sang out of tune, I missed the mark
And played the pawn
I picked the fruit and planted the seeds
Tripped over the roots of wavering reeds
The sun shone down and warmed my heart
Two rays of light two worlds apart
The kiss from God that saved my life
Filled with joy, with grief and strife
Too soon to be gone
Scent of the roses my heart did soften
But died in my hands all too often
From it's thorns I made my crown
And bore the cross which graced my gown
Now I lie on an empty shore, anticipating another sunset
My cup runneth over, filled with joy and regret
Still, tomorrow comes 'n goes, leaves me in it's wake
The stinging tide washes over but refuses to take
And then the dawn
