It's extensive to answer your questions - books have been written about this topic.
"Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices." II Cor 2:11
In summary, "The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." John 10:10 Thankfully, Jesus destroyed/destroys the works of the devil (I John 3:8).
Isa 14:12-14 answers why he was cast out of heaven and (when) it occurred - sometime before he tempted Eve (Gen 3). One third of the angels that had sided with him were cast down as well - couldn't find that Scripture today but I've seen it previously.
Who? The enemy and his group are shown in Scripture such as "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." Eph 6 The him in Rev 12:11 is the ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world. (Rev 12:9, Mounce Reverse-Interlinear NT).
Recognizing the enemy:
- From I Cor 12:10, for discerning of spirits, which is different from discernment, that information has to come from God just like all of the other manifestations of gifts of The Spirit (I Cor 12). Jesus knew that they were there and they knew Him. The disciples probably had discerning of spirits.
-"For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world." I John 2:16 Lust of the flesh such as Gal 5:16-21 and Eph 2:3; lust of the eyes such as covetousness (Commandments Exo 20 and Prov 28:16) and more than just looking at a woman (Matt 5:28) and pride.
- One of the earliest accounts of an individual forging ahead and not heeding God's warning is Cain reflected in his exchange with God in Gen 4. In v 13-14, instead of expressing any type of remorse or regret about his attitude towards God or killing Abel, Cain's thinking about himself. To me this shows unforgiveness and pride as the main components of his downfall.
Our aim includes:
-"Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:" (I Pet 5:8) can't help but notice as a roaring lion
-Submit ourselves to God, resist the enemy and he'll flee (James 4:7) noting the order.
-Give no place to the enemy (Eph 4:27) Or put another way: "And do not give the devil an opportunity [to lead you into sin by holding a grudge, or nurturing anger, or harboring resentment, or cultivating bitterness]." AMP
-Fruit of The Spirit (Gal 5:22-26).
-We're to take every thought captive (II Cor 10:5) and renew our minds with His Word (Rom 12:2)
-"They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony...." Rev 12:11
-"Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand." Eph 6:11, 13 More armor details in Eph 6.
Based on previous comments wondered if they were suggesting deliverance. If so, they need to explain how to maintain it.
Maybe this can be a springboard.
