I used to be a Christian who ate whatever,
then became a Christian who followed the food laws as I understood them.
Then as I got older I was confronted with the ethical issues of eating meat,
and also the examples of Daniel and John Baptist, and of course Adam & Eve.
In my evolving struggle against drugs and alcohol,
I confirmed to my own satisfaction that Jesus could never have drank alcoholic wine.
From here I realized that a lot of conventional Protestantism was simply wrong:
ill researched, ill-thought out,and used as a cover for sin.
I came to the conclusion that as a mature Christian,
I could not eat meat any more than I could drink alcohol, or smoke pot.
But eating meat had the added immorality of the modern inhumane and sick treatment of animals, in slaughterhouses, in cramped quarters and denied quality of life,
and of course drugged, pumped with hormones, and stuffed with garbage as food,
in order to increase profits and (low quality) yield.
The people who do these things are monsters, having their consciences burned as with a hot iron.
So finally, I have evolved, from brainwashed child,
to lukewarm 'protestant', to a doer of the will of God,
and finally to a Nazarite.
But I don't believe in legalism or pharisaism. I am still a Christian.

(One who only eats vegetables is weak in the faith, of a weak concious). Rom 14:1-2 Receive ye him that is weak in the faith, but not to judge his doubtful disputations. For one believeth that he may eat all things, while another who is weak eateth herbs.

1 Cor 8:4-9 Concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is no other God but One. For though there be what are called "gods," whether in heaven or on earth (as there are many "gods" and many "lords"), yet to us there is but one God, the Father, from whom are all things, and we in Him, and one Lord Jesus Christ by whom are all things, and we by Him. However, there is not in every man that knowledge; for some, with conscience of the idol until this hour, eat it as a thing offered unto an idol, and their conscience, being weak, is defiled. But meat commendeth us not to God, for neither are we the better if we eat, nor are we the worse if we eat not. But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumbling block to those who are weak. For if any man see thee, who hast knowledge, sitting at meat in the idol's temple, shall not the conscience of him who is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols,

Hopefully its not to late to say something. But if we all agree that ellen white does speak on not eating meat, and does infact say that since we are on the journey back to the sinless state adam had in the garden then one of the main things we should do is bring our diets back to the way God first established. And since she is a prophet why would we pick and choose what we will believe from her writings? Why would we not believe everything in her writings since she was inspired by God and the things she wrote were the very thoughts of God, who has our best interest in mind. Diet is not a salvation issue, neither is dress reform, or things like that BUT obedience is, and being willing to cut out anything from our lives so that our connection with God can be clearer should be our motivation and our reason. The lord had abraham sacrafice isaac to test him and to make sure he would give up ANYTHING for God. It was an obedience issue. romans 6:16, righteousness by faith is righteousness by obedience.

Why can't I pick and chose? She did.... (as Ellen White ate Chicken even when she was telling others to "stop eating meat"....)

Besides - what she is stating is refuted directly by scripture....

Ellen White did eat meat and drink coffee occassionally. I'm a vegen vegetarian and I occassionally slip up. But it does not stop me from telling people being a vegetarian is a healthier way of life. Not contradictions. She was human after all, no?

She wrote it's ok to have some meat, egg and milk occassionally, but it will be a time when meat will be contaminated with dicease. And I think that time is now with all the mad cow disease and bird flu...

Ok, I've been trying to avoid getting into this discussion, but I want to voice my opinion on this matter...

First off, I don't want to offend anyone. I am just simply stating my stand on this topic. If you have a problem with my opinion feel free to PM me and let me know how you disagree. I am not trying to change anyones opinion. Each person is entitled to their opinion.
That said I will now state where I stand on this issue.

I have been Adventist since birth. I have also eaten meat my whole life. I believe that you will still go to heaven if you eat meat. Going to heaven isn't based on how closely we follow the church standards, but instead on what the heart is like. You can be a model Christian on the outside, but be harboring a deep dark secret on the inside. It doesn't matter if your a vegetarian or not. God will be the judge of your heart and decide if you will enter heaven or not.
I know that there are people out there who will disagree with me. I respect your opinions, but this is where I stand.
Now, there is research that proves a vegetarian diet is healtier for you than one that contains meat. I'm not going to disagree with them on that one. But I think that it's the individuals choice on whether or not they want to be vegetarian.
I have a friend who's dad once told one of our pastors that he's not going to heaven because he eats meat. I don't think that way. Even in the Bible, there were several Godly people who ate meat. Even the disciples ate meat. The Bible clearly states that there are certain meats we can eat. It tells us how to discern if it's a clean or unclean meat. I personally think that if we weren't going to go to heaven just because we eat meat, then there wouldn't be anything in the Bible about what meats we can and can't eat. That's how I interpret it anyway.

As I said at the begining, this is just my own personal view on the topic. I know that there are some out there who don't agree with me, but I'm not trying to change anyone's opinion. As I said, feel free to PM me if you don't agree with me and have a problem with where I stand. I am willing to listen to other opinions.

I thank you for sharing your opinion.

I don't have a problem with anyone's opinion. The only time I have a problem is if someone is a hypocrite with their beliefs. There is a difference in "slipping up" and out-and-out "practicing".

I want to make this clear - I don't have a problem with Vegans/Vegetarians....I do have a problem with those that make themselves out to be "better than me" (even better in their walk with GOD) because of their choice to be Vegan/Vegetarian - I have one friend that is Vegan - and I love her to death. Why? Because she doesn't "nit-pick" with me and my dietary choices. She doesn't use her "diet" as the way to heaven.

I thought I should state that again.....

I agree many Meat eaters will bust hell wide open - Just as many Vegans/Vegetarians will too.

BTW: I know a Vegetarian that smokes.... what about him?
