  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Legacy of Kain, one of my favorites. Vampires make great anti-heroes. I've only read one book that dealt with vampires as a direct enemy, and the way the author depicted him was somewhat offensive and well defined. I like the character to be well focused and intelligent, which is presented well within the LoK series.
I may do a fanfic for it, not sure though.~TheDemiprist

Vampires... Undead... Shapeshifters. They are all wonderful... errr fun story material. I just started the first book of the Twilight series and I'm ready to start season four of Buffy. Fun stuff.

I just finished the whole series. I would site the Twilight series as an example of a vampire novel done right. ...And that's rare.

Sweet. I'm half way through New Moon and it's starting to rock. I've passed my original Twilight on to a friend and bought one for my sister to read. She ended up being a big HP fan and I'm guessing the same might happen with this series.

I'm happy you enjoyed it, Rowan!!!
I can't wait to see what happens but I'm not wanting it to end either.

That's exactly how I felt when I finished. That's when you know it's good!

I love vampires!

Not the "romantic" type vampire, well, they're kewl too I 'spose, but I love the "I'm gonna enslave the entire human population and herd them as cattle, whilst forging an empire with my own flegelings, who were once part of an organisation determined to kill all vampires. Sweet, sweet irony." type vampire. Kain, basically: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ht2UL41WdCM

Man, Legacy of Kain - Best Vampire series EVER. Fact. "But does one ever truely have a choice? One can only match, move by move, the machinations of fate." If you got at least a PS2, I HIGHLY recommend playing them all. Blood Omen, Blood Omen 2, Soul Reaver, Soul Reaver 2 and Defiance.

What does annoy me, though, is when people make it out that vampires can be uh... "intimate.". A vampire is an animated corpse, it lacks it's own blood, hence the paleness of it's skin, so how the smeg is a male vampire 'sposed to "get it up"? Vampires are the takers of life, not givers, they reproduce by siring others, not sexual reproduction. They have no need for it.

I wanna be sired!

You know, I have Legacy of Kain for PS2 just lying around (old gift from an old boyfriend) but I've never played. Maybe I'll pick it up.

Yeah, that's the one thing I don't get either.

While vampires are used quite frequently, and are often glamourized, I nevertheless love the concept.
The stereotypical emo/"goth" girl (or guy for that matter) seems to have a fixation on vampires and either strives to be one or, at the very least, fantasizes about an encounter with some such creature.
I must add that the "real" goths I know aren't like this at all. And I am NOT equating goths and emos as being equals. They are not.
Goths, as we know, are vastly superior.

- Back on topic -
In a tale that I am writing, vampires (Embodiment of the incubus.) are portrayed as very suave and elegant, but the mortals that live in the nearby towns are terrified of them.

I find nothing in the various vampire legends that indicates whether they are elegant or savage, but they are certainly NOT a creature you would wish to chance into on a dark night.

EDIT - To avatarblade2000, check out the first book in Eric Wilson's "Jerusalem's Undead" series, Field Of Blood.
I haven't read it, but a few friends say it is excellent.

Actually, no.
The Lord of the Forest is the entity that rules the Mistletoe Forest which is a region in a story I am writing.
Interesting that you should ask that, because the Lord of the Forest is actually a man that turns into a Great Moth at the first touch of twilight.

The reason I didn't put "Mistletoe" in my username was because had I used too many characters.

I hadn't thought of the werewolf inquisitions for a long time.
Very interesting material.

The Lord of the Forest is the figure that many supposed werewolves confessed to getting their powers from. They would go out into the woods, sometimes with a friend who already knew the Lord (often on trial for the same charge), and make a pact with him in exchange for the power to become a wolf. He would give them an animal pelt in some cases, but in all of them he would give them a magical salve (made of hallucinogenic herbs) that caused the transformation as well. The salve caused the victim to believe they were becoming a wolf, and sometimes they were found with it. The Lord of the Forest was simply the being, usually assumed to be Satan or another demon, that supplied them with it.

I think that the whole Vampire thing is old and boring.
I have no intention of ever finishing the Twilight books because they are.. well trash.
But then again I tend to be overly critical of every book I read.
Too cliche for me anyway.. The seductive angsty young vampire boy that is still in high school (lame) and then he falls in love with a dull bimbo girl who has no aspirations in life other than Edward Cullens. (bats eyelashes)

It's just like the fairy tales you heard when you were little but now it's disguised with blood lust and black clothes.

Borrring!
