• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

There are many purposes of sex, but I would say the most simple of them all would be to satisfy an urge.

Christians would recognize the importance of feelings and natural urges but would see sex in terms of love

what is the purpose of sex?

To whom (from what perspective) and for whom (what parties are involved in the act)?

Biblically speaking, I would assume that you're trying to solicit the answer, "Procreation, of course!"

Many species of animal use sex for pleasure (ie, mating when they're not fertile, like dolphins do), group bonding (bonobos), social status (chimps), and procreation.

Anthropologically, women have used sex to assure the safety of their offspring (ie, mating with a number of males so that uncertain paternity would prevent the males from killing a rival offspring, lest they inadvertently kill their own offspring). Women have also traded sexual access for meat, when it was difficult to obtain.

For me: intimacy, catharsis, amusement, distraction, warmth, and communication. It's a versatile activity when one is unencumbered by religious prohibitions.

interestingly, those practicing NFP seem to have more sex, so I really don't believe the opinion that a Christian understanding of intimacy is an encumbrance

The only responsible use of contraceptives that I can think of is for a legitimate medical reason, such as my sister, who has a blood disorder and cannot risk proceeding naturally with her cycle due to the issue.

Because of course using birth control to avoid having children would be irresponsible if you happened to have no means of supporting even yourself and your partner, or if you have medical problems that make it physically impossible to carry a pregnancy to term, or may not be able to physically care for the child, or have mental health concerns that make parenting a bad idea. No matter what, go ahead create babies you can't provide for properly because God will provide.

Don't be silly. If any of those things apply, YOU SHOULDN'T BE HAVING SEX. :preach:

what do you think?

I think that it means not holding anything back, but sharing one's whole self and natural state of fertility or infertility

Then why would be it okay to hold back completely during certain parts of the cycle? If I give myself fully to my partner how is it EVER okay to practice birth control - in particular a method that requires me to NOT give myself to my partner during certain days of the month?
