So to be part of this community means one cannot have such possessions. . . and he has chosen his possessions over his community . . . too many things here to be simply coincidence. . . . have we all been played?

No, he would be allowed to keep his possessions. They don't require poverty. Thats not the issue. The issue is he chose to stay on his ranch rather than with the priesthood period. I suppose he wants justice too and that he figures he couldn't get that by staying in the community. He deserves justice.

I think if that were true he would not have preempted the Church in announcing his resignation and telling us to no longer call him a priest, but merely John Corapi.

If he is to be obedient, he has to ask you to no longer call him a priest because he cannot continue to speak publicly in that capacity.

Leaving his possessions behind, giving them up . . the effect on his daily life is the same, no?

I believe it was stated that SOLT was working to change so as to make poverty and community an additional duty of the their members, and how to work Fr. Corapi into that new framework.

A priest cannot speak publically while on suspension, that does not mean one stops calling them "father."

His resignation has not yet been accepted. . but he has pre-empted the Church's decision and before the Church has accepted it, he has rejected being called father.

His preaching and theology was sound. Nothing takes away from a message that is true. But when you speak truth, often people listen then they come to you and the temptation for pride is great. Fulton Sheen always guarded against it.

It seems here perhaps the enemy tempted with money and power and to outward appearances by his own actions it seems as though he stumbled and continues to persist in pride.

May the Lord guide him.

But his message, when in line with God's truth, is not his message but God's and the truth of it remains. Those who speak truth often get the temptation of power from the world others who speak it are attacked.

Dave I think the book was in the works back in late 2009 or early 2010.

I think it will turn out in the end that this woman lied to the Local Ordinary of the SOLT:

Everyone BUT Jesus deserves what we get, except injustice.

Don't know if you have ever had to give up everything you own or not. I have a few times. Its never that easy.

But he does not need to petition his group for a release from religious life and choose to live on the ranch and sell a book rather than in community like the superior has asked him to.

That is what seems odd to me.

At this point he has zero teaching authority so why set up a new business to preach.

The whole black sheep thing, after comments he has made about Episcopal Authority while still saying he is faithful...highlights his break from and not obedience to the Church.

This is what upsets me. Jimmy Akin summed up my feeling well actually: link

I have no idea or way of knowing if she lied or told the truth. I just know his actions seem prideful. He has canonical measures he can take. And the Black Sheepdog thing is just off base to me.

Joab, yes, we are to give up seeking personal justice if we are follow Christ by taking up our cross, DENYING OURSELVES and following Him..

That means just that - FOLLOWING HIM in every way . . even allowing injustice against ourselves and being silent as a lamb in our reaction.

All we have is his word. We can chose to believe it or not or wait. I'm on the part of the fence that is leaning heavily toward a psycho chick.

What canonical measures does he have? He seems to have despaired of that process.

The sheepdog thing to me is a very human pity party by someone who has been thrown under the bus. Give it time.

His resignation has not yet been accepted. . but he has pre-empted the Church's decision and before the Church has accepted it, he has rejected being called father.

TLF, his faculties have been suspended and he has been asked not to speak publicly as a priest. Nowhere has it been said that he has been asked not to speak publicly in any manner. As Bishop Gracida said, Father Corapi has been:

Prevented (hopefully only temporarily) from exercising that priesthood in a public manner during his suspension, he is aware of his obligation to be a witness to the truth and to continue to evangelize. He evidently intends to do so until his suspension is lifted not as Father John Corapi but as The Black Sheep Dog.

As a good sheep dog he will continue to try to protect the flock from the dangers of heresy, heterodoxy, and all other forms of untruth.

No, he is being obedient as he is honoring their command that he not speak publicly in his priestly capacity. It has nothing to do with rejection, as Bishop Gracida points out.

All undeniable but that takes being in the right frame of mind. Even those who are fail all the time. We don't judge.

canonical court then a series of appeals all the way to the CDC. He actually has availed himself of none of them in the three months and from what his superiors say...his reliance on the secular court before the ecclesiastical one has caused them to have to stop their work. Since when he brought the secular case they now can not interview the woman or anyone else who can tell them anything.

He gave the canonical process in 3 months after having interfered with it. That is a lack of patience to say the least in my opinion.

It's asked what cannonical meaures does he have? Since he himself chopped them off at the knee by his civil suit, he is the onnly one to blame if he has none available to him.

He would if he dropped his civil suit, thys freeing up the witnesses to speak to the Church, and then the Church could clear his name. But until then, it is his fault this can't happen, and his fault solely.

It is said we don't judge. . . we are never to judge one's disposition with God. . whether they are gong to heaven or hell. . . but we are indeed to discern what is presnted to us, what the truth of the matter is as far as we can, and not rush to someone's defense because they are popular or charismatic and command a following.

We are to use discernment.

And that may very well be the case. But we do not know that with any degree of certainty, and that is my entire point... It is conjecture. Once again, as Bishop Gracida said, "I believe that he is justified in not seeking to clear his name through a canonical process; at the present time such processes are very flawed in most dioceses. Rather I would like to believe that he intends to try to clear his name through the civil courts." It's not like Bishop Gracida is speaking off the cuff here with no frame of reference at all...

My personal opinion from reading what he has done and his statements is that he is putting too much faith in the secular authority and too little in the clerical ones.

He is not pursuing the secular case saying he did nothing...he is saying she signed an agreement to tell no one what went on in his business. Of course that does not remove her canonical rights and obligation as a member of the laity to tell the Bishop of misconduct.

So see how this looks? He is tossing the Church process aside after 3 months after personally truncating their ability to investigate at pretty much the start. And rather than pursue innocence civilly he goes after a basic gag order he made her sign to give up her rights to say anything that happened.

That does not look very good.

I thought that too. But it appears there is still more to the story. Why would he say some want him out? Thats what makes me wonder.

TLF, his faculties have been suspended and he has been asked not to speak publicly as a priest. Nowhere has it been said that he has been asked not to speak publicly in any manner.

He is not to speak in his capacity as a priest. He does not give a homily for instance. But that does not mean we stop calling him father.

As Bishop Gracida said, Father Corapi has been:

Bishop Gracida did not approve of this continuing to speak or to represent himself not as a priest, but as blacksheepdog . .. he was merely making the observation this was Corapi's decision.

That's all he said. One can teach without exercising their priesthood and still be called Father.

The operational phrase above regarding the priesthood above is "in a public manner"

He can still exercise his priesthood in a private manner, he can say private mass just as Saint Pio did, etc. . he just can't do it publically. He can't hear confessions, etc. But he does not cease from being able to exercise his priesthood altogether.

No, he is being obedient as he is honoring their command that he not speak publicly in his priestly capacity. It has nothing to do with rejection, as Bishop Gracida points out.

I believe you are reading the information presented wrongly.
