The Scientist Warren Used Didn’t Test Native American DNA

"According to a report by the Boston Globe, there is no Native American DNA available for genetic testing “because Native American leaders have asked tribal members not to participate in genetic databases.” (RELATED: Boston Globe Issues Major Correction On Liz Warren’s Ancestry Claims)

Therefore, in order to test for Native American ancestry, genetic researchers have to use samples from other parts of the world."

Pulling out a Trump sound bite?
What's funny is he says that now but there's clips from several different of his rallies where he brings up the question of Warren's ancestry so clearly to him and many of his supporters this must be a pretty big deal.

From what I've read, he even said that if she proved she had Native American ancestry, he'd donate a million dollars to a Native American charity (which they could desperately use). I don't care about squabbling politics, but if something good comes out of this, then I'd be happy. =)

Who honestly cares so much about this? Aren't there a few bigger issues this year?

Like the impending potential collapse of our democracy.

Warren cares deeply. That's why she went through with this shennanigan.

Native American charities are not in need of money. They generate over $32 Billion in revenue from their gaming operations. They can easily take care of their own. The fact that they could be corrupt, is their problem.

Which means that NOONE can VERIFY potential American Indian heritage ... whether they have it or not. This is not Warren's fault.

This includes my family, which is thought to have Native American heritage on both sides.

Attempts to validate using Other Native American DNA is not invalid, as these groups are closely related.

BTW ... other parts of the world ... is Central and South America.

I wasn't kidding when I said (maybe in another thread) that Breitbart was losing their mind over this. I count seven Facebook posts about Warren just this morning, and I'm fairly sure there were more than that yesterday.

I mean I get why they mention it. Trump brought it up and they have to pretend his silly name calling is somehow clever so they run with it. Something like 95% (I'm guessing) of Democratic voters aren't of her same state and can't vote for her so I don't see why any of us should care.

The whole thing is so pointless and childish and an awful testament to the direction political discourse has gone in this country lately.

Yes. He really does stupify near everything he touches. He's turned the presidency into a joke.

You haven't been to many reservations, have you? Go to the Navajo or Hopi nations and tell me they are rolling in the dough. Remember, not all Reservations have casinos, and they aren't getting much help outside of their own communities to help them deal with the struggles they have (and each res has it's own struggles, for sure).

Here where I live, it's true that the casinos do a lot for their communities, but casinos shouldn't be expected to be the major source of how a community grows, don't you agree? After all, we are talking about our neighbors. These are American folks, and we need to be helping our own, no?

Trump does too. Apparently because such a simple approach to politics works wonders on all of you.

You proved my point. The Indian Nation has money it doesn't spend properly to serve the needs of its own. Indians also get a lot of taxpayer benefits not available to other Americans. Healthcare is one...totally free for them. But I'm all for charity. If Trump wants to donate to one of them, let him. You'll probably criticise him for that, too, I imagine.

PS We got lots of res near where I live and numerous, very profitable casinos.

Headline is a bit overblown.

From the actual report.

Samples. The individual’s sample contained information on 764,958 sites of genetic variation across the human chromosomes, of which 660,173 overlapped with sites in the reference set used for ancestry analysis. Our population reference set consisted of 148 individuals (a continental reference panel of 37 individuals from across Europe, 37 from Nigeria with Sub-Saharan African ancestry, 37 from across the Americas with Native American ancestry, and 37 individuals from China).

I mean, who knows what people on this site might think, that the Inca were specially created by their gods totally separately from the Cherokee, who were created by Cherokee gods. But for most of us in reality land, the indigenous people of the Americas are more closely related to each other than to the Chinese or Europeans. And with a decent sample, you can find significant genetic markers that unite indigenous Americans.
