From the Boston Globe article:

"Detecting DNA for Native Americans is particularly tricky because there is an absence of Native American DNA available for comparison. This is in part because Native American leaders have asked tribal members not to participate in genetic databases."

Now I know what a “two spirit” NDN is.....I think.

And who do you think a Two Spirit NDN is exactly? Did you know that Two Spirit NDNs were once well respected and revered within their tribe? They were considered to be sacred.

From what I've read, he even said that if she proved she had Native American ancestry, he'd donate a million dollars to a Native American charity (which they could desperately use). I don't care about squabbling politics, but if something good comes out of this, then I'd be happy. =)

Spoiler alert - he was lying.

I wasn't kidding when I said (maybe in another thread) that Breitbart was losing their mind over this. I count seven Facebook posts about Warren just this morning, and I'm fairly sure there were more than that yesterday.
Beats talking about the latest House polling numbers, that's for sure.

Just because they've been asked not to provide samples doesn't mean they haven't provided samples. Also, if you join the military, you are donating a sample during intake. I knew several pure native american soldiers during my time in the military.

You proved my point. The Indian Nation has money it doesn't spend properly to serve the needs of its own. Indians also get a lot of taxpayer benefits not available to other Americans. Healthcare is one...totally free for them. But I'm all for charity. If Trump wants to donate to one of them, let him. You'll probably criticise him for that, too, I imagine.

PS We got lots of res near where I live and numerous, very profitable casinos.

It is true that many (not all) of our neighboring tribes are granted benefits, but don't forget that these places are in recovery. The folks from the tribes where I live had been kicked out of their former land and relocated almost 100 years ago (not including the trail of tears), and a lot of their culture (and even language) was beaten out of them via boarding schools as recently as 30 years ago. Recently, the last native speaker of the Salish language died, so now all they have to work with are recordings and word fragments they have left to try and reconstruct this lost language. They aren't sitting as pretty as you make it seem.

As for my views on Trump, I think it's interesting that you've already made your mind up about how I would respond to a situation like that. What about my posts would lead you to believe that I would criticize him even if he were to do something that I thought was good? I don't even think I've posted much on him, have I?

I think it's unlikely that they obtained DNA samples from the military.

Uh, you might want to run things like that by people who understand biology before posting here.
I think it's important to understand humor before posting here. imo

Although I'm often not the best judge of it, come to think of it

But I can't imagine having taken that seriously

There's no telling what our government might sell for the right price or opportunity. It's not like they hold our privacy in high regard.

I would have thought that about lots of right wing talking points in this and similar threads, but I've learned the hard way.

This is a typically dishonest story from the Daily Caller. They use the weasel phrase "other parts of the world" which could lead one to think they compared her DNA with Khoisan genomes or Ainu genomes or whatever. In fact Bustamante used samples from other American Indian populations.

They also claim that there is "no Native American DNA" but that's not what the article actually says:
>> “The tribes have felt they have been exploited,” explained Lawrence Brody, a senior investigator with the Medical Genomics and Metabolic Genetics Branch at the National Institutes of Health. “The amount of genetic data that is available from Native Americans is sparse.” <<

Sparse, not non-existent.

And contrary to the smug mockery of some here Bustamante's analysis showed she has more Native American DNA that your average white person.
>> Bustamante also compared Warren’s DNA to white populations in Utah and Great Britain to determine if the amounts of Native American markers in Warren’s sample were significant or just background noise.

Warren has 12 times more Native American blood than a white person from Great Britain and 10 times more than a white person from Utah, the report found. <<

I feel like I've been rick-rolled - promised a Boston Globe story, but sent to, ew, Daily Caller.

Anyway, I went to see what the "Major Correction" was and found this:
BostonGlobe said:
Correction: Due to a math error, a story about Elizabeth Warren misstated the ancestry percentage of a potential 6th to 10th generation relative. The generational range based on the ancestor that the report identified suggests she’s between 1/64th and 1/1,024th Native American.
