Actually, phrased that way, you are saying the same thing: that physical (created) light is a metaphor for God.

I don't understand what "literally" means to you in this context or why it is important to say the metaphor means that God is "literally" physical, created light.

For me, "literally" here either adds nothing to the context or implies that physical light is an idol--an image of God in material form--just like a golden calf.

God could manifest Himself to us as light. But it is not necessary for every light to have God in it.
