  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

No.
God is light, God is ..., God is ...., and God is ... etc. etc. It is awkward. But it is good.
Get it?
If God is physical light, and God created light on Day 1, did God create Himself?
The framework interpretation of Genesis 1 is making more and more sense to me.

No. God is not light. Light is a physical property of the universe. God is outside the universe, therefore he is not light.

Get it? To say God is light is to use a metaphor.

Like I said to Assyria, I can accept what you said without a problem.

BUT, I insist that it is also literally true. God creates light. God creates man. God creates everything. However, God can also reveal Himself to us via anything He created: love, man, and, of course, physical light.

To compare yours with mine. I still think mine is better.

Actually, phrased that way, you are saying the same thing: that physical (created) light is a metaphor for God.

I don't understand what "literally" means to you in this context or why it is important to say the metaphor means that God is "literally" physical, created light.

For me, "literally" here either adds nothing to the context or implies that physical light is an idol--an image of God in material form--just like a golden calf.

Question: why would God appear as something to nothing that could perceive Him anyway? Light on the second day?

I wonder why would such question be a question.

God could manifest Himself to us as light. But it is not necessary for every light to have God in it.
