I have the dvd version of ut2004. It's alright. I don't think the graphics are up to par compared to other games, and it's basically a frag fest, not much strategy. Not only that, but the game ate up a whopping 5GB of my HD. You have to really like it to justify that much space; that's the biggest game I have, but not the best.

There is an RPG mod for UT2004 and it's really fun. (Although it can seriously drain the FPS) For each frag, you earn exp. When you gain levels you can invest skill points into shot speed, shot damage, max health, max ammo (kind of like Diablo) as well as some nifty abilities such as vampirism, regeneration, and a sidekick monster who will follow you around and shoot at your enemies.

It's a lot of fun, especially in onslaught maps, but it can really drain your system. When you (and your enemies) can fire any weapon and any vehicle weapon (including the tank) in an almost continous stream, the sheer number of particle effects really hit up the frames per second.

Yea your not kidding. Try shooting a flak cannon in Tokarra Forest with 3000 weapon speed. Everyone's machine in the stage just freezes up. Eventually they stop showing the particles and things fall over dead for no reason.

The RPG in UT2K4 really annoyed me because what I liked most about FPSs, especially UT2K4, is that you relied on your own skill and not how much time you put into the game. Also if you play RPG on the onslaught maps the mantas absolutly tear up when you run over something. Theres no reason to add a weapon bonus.

I'm just curious, has anyone else ever went for double frags with the translocater, then done it reliably?
I do it a lot unintentionally when some idiot moderator picks a small when theres a lot of people in. Not sure if I've ever gotten a multi-kill... hrmm interesting prospect there Moonless...

I too am addicted to this game. Between it and Call of Duty I think my wife is going to be filling out divorce papers soon. ;)
Only problem with UT4k is that I am having trouble passing the Assault missions so I can get the vehicles.
I think I'm just not too good at it. When I play online, I'm pretty good at capture the flag but in DM I get smoked more than anyone else.

i've only played the demo, but it's every much as awsome as i had expected it to be.
UT is one of the best FPS's out there, from the first, to 2004...just awsome.

i love to play online with my friends, (old UT) because nothing builds friendship more than shooting off your best friends head with a sniper rifle
