So for months I have been completely obsessed with whatever i committed the unforgivable sin mentioned in Matthew, blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.

One day, I deliberately told the LORD in my head some awful things I will not repeat here in regards to the unforgivable sin.

Now i do not feel forgiven anymore. I feel like I screwed up so bad. I want to come back and follow jesus so bad but do not even know if I can even come to repentance anymore.

This gets repeated a lot here and this is something I feared when I was a kid, but not, you have not committed the unforgiven sin because that's something only possible at the time of Christ, and people who committed it won't care if they did it.

The only unforgivable sin today, is unbelief.

Question: "What is the unpardonable sin / unforgivable sin?"

Answer:
The unpardonable/unforgivable sin or “blasphemy of the Holy Spirit” is mentioned in Mark 3:22–30and Matthew 12:22–32. Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, people can be forgiven all their sins and every slander they utter” (Mark 3:28), but then He gives one exception: “Whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; they are guilty of an eternal sin” (verse 29).

According to Jesus, the unpardonable or unforgivable sin is unique. It is the one iniquity that will never be forgiven (“never” is the meaning of “either in this age or in the age to come” in Matthew 12:32). The unforgivable sin is blasphemy (“defiant irreverence”) of the Holy Spirit in the context of the Spirit’s work in the world through Christ. In other words, the particular case of blasphemy seen in Matthew 12 and Mark 3 is unique. The guilty party, a group of Pharisees, had witnessed irrefutable evidence that Jesus was working miracles in the power of the Holy Spirit, yet they claimed that He was possessed by the prince of demons, Beelzebul (Matthew 12:24; Mark 3:30).

The Jewish leaders of Jesus’ day committed the unpardonable sin by accusing Jesus Christ (in person, on earth) of being demon-possessed. They had no excuse for such an action. They were not speaking out of ignorance or misunderstanding. The Pharisees knew that Jesus was the Messiah sent by God to save Israel. They knew the prophecies were being fulfilled. They saw Jesus’ wonderful works, and they heard His clear presentation of truth. Yet they deliberately chose to deny the truth and slander the Holy Spirit. Standing before the Light of the World, bathed in His glory, they defiantly closed their eyes and became willfully blind. Jesus pronounced that sin to be unforgivable.

The blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, specific as it was to the Pharisees’ situation, cannot be duplicated today. Jesus Christ is not on earth, and no one can personally see Jesus perform a miracle and then attribute that power to Satan instead of the Spirit. The only unpardonable sin today is that of continued unbelief. There is no pardon for a person who dies in his rejection of Christ. The Holy Spirit is at work in the world, convicting the unsaved of sin, righteousness, and judgment (John 16:8). If a person resists that conviction and remains unrepentant, then he is choosing hell over heaven. “Without faith it is impossible to please God” (Hebrews 11:6), and the object of faith is Jesus (Acts 16:31). There is no forgiveness for someone who dies without faith in Christ.

God has provided for our salvation in His Son (John 3:16). Forgiveness is found exclusively in Jesus (John 14:6). To reject the only Savior is to be left with no means of salvation; to reject the only pardon is, obviously, unpardonable.

Many people fear they have committed some sin that God cannot or will not forgive, and they feel there is no hope for them, no matter what they do. Satan would like nothing more than to keep people laboring under that misconception. God gives encouragement to the sinner who is convicted of his sin: “Come near to God and he will come near to you” (James 4:8). “Where sin increased, grace increased all the more” (Romans 5:20). And the testimony of Paul is proof positive that God can and will save anyone who comes to Him in faith (1 Timothy 1:12–17). If you are suffering under a load of guilt today, rest assured that you have not committed the unpardonable sin. God is waiting with open arms. Jesus’ promise is that “he is able to save completely those who come to God through him” (Hebrews 7:25). Our Lord will never fail. “Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The LORD, the LORD himself, is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation” (Isaiah 12:2).

You have not committed an unpardonable sin. See Is there an unpardonable sin, what is blasphemy of the holy spirit. The cross was the righteous life of Jesus given in exchange for our life time of sins. As the bible says "as it is appointed for man to die once so Christ died once for sins". Your sin is covered.

Even if you have committed the unforgivable sin, this does not stop you from laying hold of the promises of God and continue serving Him. The fact that you realise what you have done and you feel guilt and humiliation before God about it is a sign of hope for you.

Jesus said that He has not come into the world to condemn the world but through Him the world might be saved.
Today is still the day of grace, and those who come to Jesus will not be cast away from Him.
God's promise is, "Come let us reason together; though your sins are as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow".
Another promise: "If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness".

The Scripture says, "If any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ". This means that Jesus is your judge, but He is your defence lawyer at the same time! You can't get a better deal than that!

It is the truth, and you will be able to see this throughout the Bible: That God's promises are never, for any reason, ever taken back. They are carved in bronze for eternity. There is absolutely no place in Scripture where God has ever repented of a promise toward anyone who has trusted in Him or Christ by faith.
But you will see that His threatenings in Scripture have been cancelled when the people have repented and laid hold of His promises.
This means that God's promises are yes and amen for ever, while His threatenings are cancelled when His people meet the conditions.

What makes you think you were forgiven in the first place? But remember, feelings are a poor judge of facts.

Funny how quickly we condemn ourselves over what we are willing to admit, and ignore altogether other things we do against God.

We are like a little child, who screams, "I hate you" to a parent. Why should God take us seriously when we do that? We don't even know what we mean except that our feelings feel important to us at that time. Talk to God about it.

You cannot earn him back. And you cannot lose him if you are his. You are not stronger than he is. What he has begun he will complete.

I would like to believe what you wrote, but according to scripture:

"Mathew 12:32 And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come."

This is not referring to Jesus, but to the Holy Spirit. I remember reading something similar to what you posed by John Piper of Desiring God. John Piper cannot be trusted as his take on the scriptures is often skewed. This is one sin you do not want to commit whether you believe it possible today or not.
I am a long way from saying it is impossible. I say that we take ourselves seriously when we should not, and fail to take ourselves seriously in ways that God does take us seriously. Even the most depressed of us have amazing amount of off-kilter self-esteem.

But like most things in Scripture we like to take a short portion out of the whole of the rest of Scripture. God will not fail to produce what he created --the Bride of Christ. Her members are exactly and only those he predestined for that purpose. There is no plan B, and no randomness to his purposes.

If someone commits the unpardonable sin, they are not elect. Pretty simple, I think.

The sin against the Holy Ghost is a subject that has caused Christians a lot of anxiety, so you are not alone. As long as you put your faith in Christ, and continue to repent of your sins, you can be fairly certain that you will never commit that sin.

Anxiety can give rise to all kinds of intrusive thoughts. For example, a lot of people with OCD often experience what they believe are blasphemous thoughts which are in fact obsessions caused by excessive worrying.

Keep focusing on the promises of God, that He will not leave you or forsake you, that he desires that no-one should perish but receive eternal life, and that He saves to the uttermost. God is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love.

Use your time to do service for Him, perhaps help out in your local church, or someone you know who is in need and might need your help. Helping others will not only take the focus off your own anxiety, it will help you feel better. When you see others enriched by your ministry, you will be more aware of God working in your life and you will have a renewed confidence in your relationship with Him.

The Jews were having grace's day with manifestations of God's mercy such as had never been granted to any people-group before. The Spirit was reaching them through the Word as preached by Jesus and his disciples. Their leaders and the common people, though, were hardening their hearts against Jesus' influence. As long as the blasphemy would flow from ignorance and be directed against Jesus, there'd be repentance's probability. As soon, however, as there's blaspheming against the Spirit, then this is changed. For this implies that a person rejects the Spirit's work for their salvation. This sin's nature precludes forgiveness; there's no hope.

Well HAPPY to brake it to you.. it does NOT work that way.. See His one people..all those there.. put Him on a cross. KILLED HIM! What does He say? Father forgive them for they know not what they do :)

Jesus KNEW every sin you would ever do and DIED FOR YOU! Yeah..HE LOVES YOU NOW! He knows there are moments when we cant see and then say things.. He knows your heart.. does not judge you based on your flesh.. and for that matter does not JUDGE YOU! NOR CONDEMN you. See He already did that.

So.. how does He feel when you goof up or say REALLY mean things.. LOVE YOU! HAPPY WITH YOU! When you cry He does.. He lets you get mad...says nothing. Sorry there is NO WAY to get Him mad at you.. TRUST ME.. you NEVER WANT THAT and praise GOD that wont ever happen!

So.. do what we do.. when WE get mad at God.. forgive me.. HE DOES! We pick our selfs up.. dust off and keep going. And those THOUGHTS about GOD mad or you did the thing GOD NOW HATES YOU! ALL from the enemy aka Satan.. yeah all a lie! GOD IS FOR YOU! NOT against you

See HE is NOT a man nor thinks like one. We think of Him like man. I would get upset at you leave you.. never talk to you again. YOU would do the same if I keep treating you like that. Oooh BUT GOD is not like that. He is NOT a man. He said He loved you? ALWAYS! Never leave you? NEVER LEAVES YOU NO MATTER WHAT YOU EVER DO!

So.. you go through this life.. mistake after mistake.. sin after sin.. and you start to cry and cry because.. WOW He never leaves...always forgives me.. makes you want to try even harder to live FOR HIM! NO ONE treats you like this. NO ONE on this earth ever will! His LOVE is forever! DUDE get over it get use to it! HE always uses PEACE when He talks.. love joy .. read ISA 41:10

You are SO LOVED! The Father loves you..aka YOUR DAD HELLO!

Charles Spurgeon would be one of the most strict Calvinists, and he said that even if a person has committed the unforgiveable sin, this is no reason for that person to abandon Christ, because who knows whether God will forgive such a person who lays hold of Christ and humbles himself before God.
It is a fact in Scripture that God often withdraws His threatenings in response to honest and heartful repentance. And Jesus statement about speaking against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven is a threatening, and therefore can be cancelled if the sinner runs to His throne of grace for mercy.

Djddhd63h,

I apologize. I was referring to an ESV verse but it's incorrect:

Look at these two verses. The first one is the ESV, the second the KJV

"Mathew 12:32 And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come."

Mat 12:32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.

In the first verse it states "age", and in the second it states "world". The KJV is always more accurate and the Greek corresponds.

The following is commentary by William Henry"

Whosoever shall blaspheme. As for those who blasphemed Christ when he was here upon earth, and called him a Winebibber, a Deceiver, a Blasphemer, and the like, they had some colour of excuse, because of the meanness of his appearance, and the prejudices of the nation against him; and the proof of his divine mission was not perfected till after his ascension; and therefore, upon their repentance, they shall be pardoned: and it is hoped that they may be convinced by the pouring out of the Spirit, as many of them were, who had been his betrayers and murderers. But if, when the Holy Ghost is given, in his inward gifts of revelation, speaking with tongues, and the like, such as were the distributions of the Spirit among the apostles, if they continue to blaspheme the Spirit likewise, as an evil spirit, there is no hope of them that they will ever be brought to believe in Christ; for First, Those gifts of the Holy Ghost in the apostles were the last proof that God designed to make use of for the confirming of the gospel, and were still kept in reserve, when other methods preceded. Secondly, This was the most powerful evidence, and more apt to convince than miracles themselves. Thirdly, Those therefore who blaspheme this dispensation of the Spirit, cannot possibly be brought to believe in Christ; those who shall impute them to a collusion with Satan, as the Pharisees did the miracles, what can convince them? This is such a strong hold of infidelity as a man can never be beaten out of, and is therefore unpardonable, because hereby repentance is hid from the sinner's eyes.

It's a good thing that you are not the OP's spiritual counsellor. I would not close the door to mercy, grace and forgiveness to anyone no matter what they have done because even if such a person came in humility and repentance to Christ, He has promised that He would not cast such a person away. I would tell that person to go to prayer, plead for mercy, lay hold of the promises of Christ, and humble himself before God until he receives the assurance of God's forgiveness. I would never insult the grace of Christ by driving anyone to despair and spiritual suicide by telling them they could never be forgiven.

Christ in Matthew 12:31 (NLV) said:
I tell you, every sin and every bad word men speak against God will be forgiven, but bad words spoken against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.

Hmm...

But we don't know whether the OP has actually blasphemed against the Holy Spirit in such a way that it is actually unforgivable.

Also, someone who is totally reprobate because of the unforgivable sin would not be concerned or worrying about it at all.

Also, you need to hunt up all the O.T. Scriptures that show that God has either promised a withdrawal of a threat in response to humility repentance, or that a threat has actually been withdrawn when people have humbled themselves and prayed.

Very true.

Also if you read about King David's adultery and how God proclaimed judgement upon him by saying that the first born child would die; King David wept, fasted, and prayed until the child was born. His reasoning was, "As long as the baby was still alive there was hope."

I feel this happiness now... I do not know why.

Like I said, if I am able to be forgiven, I would run to Jesus in a heartbeat!!!!!!!!!!!!! And surrender everything to him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And the things he asks me to do that I can not do, he will give me the grace to do so.

By the way, I realised that you can have everything in the world. But if you do not have God, you will never be happy.
