• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I've really gotten into cycling in the last couple years and have become a complete cycle nut. I've also started rock climbing and climb 5 days a week in the gym. I'm eat like crazy consuming about 3500 calories a day. I feel like I've reached my highest physical peak ever but I've been loosing weight  I've always maintained less than 10% body fat but now I'm down to about 3-4%. I'll even load up on complex carbs before bed (which I know is the worst thing I could do but that's kinda the point) and I'll wake up 2 lbs less than the previous night! I've lost 10 lbs in the last couple months as I have become considerably more active and at 134 dropping to 124 is scaring my. I've started taking a protein supplement because I'm worried that my body is eating itself to feed my extreme cardio habit. I know I've gained muscle mass because my ring size has gone up and I had to loosen my watch a notch because of all the climbing I've gotten into. But already being such a small guy where is all that weight coming from that I've been loosing if I'm still gaining slight muscle mass?

If someone were to ask you, "how much do you weigh?," how would you feel? If you answer, "uncomfortable," you are in the majority. Most of us struggle in and around how much we weight, some of us to the point of shame and despair.Well.. may be this time, your body consumes more and thus your muscle gain mass, and losing lbs.

I'm back up to my usual weight and it hasn't fluctuated an iota in months. I'm 5'10" 135 lbs. I've still been cycling like mad. I actually got hit by 2 cars in 2 weeks! No medical bills but someone's paying for my bike tuneup. I was actually thinking about how I'm finally back to my usual weight but while it was disappearing I had an unusually low libido, I mean disturbingly low. It was kinda a relief but everything is back to normal.

My doctor always tells me that I'm just reaching my peak and physical potential, hormones and what not. He's my dad so we never run any tests. He just looks at me :p

What is your goal?

Outline your training schedule and program(s).

What do you eat? Do you eat a lot of carbo?

Ha guess what. Exact same thing happened to me to me this time of year too! A.) It's my cardio work outs. I burned 2.5 pounds of fat this week by 3500+ calorie bike rides. I put on a little winter weight as I was a little lazy this winter but nothing unhealthy so it's all good. I've already gone from 135 to 125. B.) It just so happens I have a new female in my life this time of year as well. Dunno if that has anything to do with it or just a coincidence.

My goals are training for Bloomsday race in Spokane WA. I'm trying to run 12K in 48 mins to get elite seeding for next year. I ran 4 miles at pace (6:25 min/mile) yesterday and I got one week left. I'm feeling great though. No knee pain or other joint pain which is common in my family. I've learned to train smarter over the last couple years.

I don't have much of a training schedule but I usually workout at least 1500 calories a day. Biking, running, or hiking. Mostly biking. I have a cycle computer that measures heart rate and calories and every other stat I might desire and I love tracking my stats.

I do eat a ton of carbs, and I do so whenever I'm hungry. I eat about 3 bananas a day and always have a peanut butter and honey bagel for breakfast. I can't help it, I'm addicted to bagels :p I had a large plate of pasta last night at about 2 am. I don't sleep much either. I have a huge metabolism and don't usually get more than 5 hours of sleep a night. I've been trying to get more sleep through herbal remedies and I've scheduled an acupuncture appointment next week. I do have insomnia, both having trouble falling asleep and waking up repeatedly throughout the night and not falling back asleep for hours.

Other than that I'm not groggy or tired during the day and always have energy for any activity. I'm like a hyped up energizer bunny chewing watermelon bubble gum on pogo stick in a disco.

So if that is your goal, you have to bear the consequences of your training. It's just part of the package. Change your goal/sport or learn to be comfortable with the weight loss.

I don't have much of a training schedule but I usually workout at least 1500 calories a day.
Train 4 times a week tops. Read this. I think you are doing too much work which contributes to your uncomfortable weight loss.

I do eat a ton of carbs, and I do so whenever I'm hungry.
That could be one contributing factor to your uncomfortable weight loss.

How much fat and protein do you eat?

I don't sleep much either. I have a huge metabolism and don't usually get more than 5 hours of sleep a night. Could contribute to your problem too.

Just my two cents. I am not qualified to comment on nutrition but i know people (me included) who can't put on any muscle to save their lives and changed that through adding a lot of fat and protein.

I'm a vegetarian but I do get a lot of protein. I have a protein supplement a few times a week and I eat a decent amount of fat. I don't count my calories but I eat a ton of food. I guess I'm pretty comfortable with what's going on now, now that It's the same thing happening again this year. I don't feel like I'm pushing myself too hard, at times not hard enough. You can always go that extra mile :) I do rest during the week though. I'm just a cycle fiend and love the speed so I try to cycle every day. I bike to work and around town too as much as I can instead of driving. I got my first triple digit bike ride in last week too, one of my lifetime goals :) I've gotten pretty comfortable with my genetics too because all of my family is very small. I'm actually the tallest in my family and I'm only 5'10". I don't really care about putting on muscle mass so long as I'm happy and healthy.

as i am sure you know your weight is all about calories in verses calories out. you burn more than you take in you will lose weight. i have been trying to avoid losing wieght so i have to keep uping my calorie intake. it is a little easier for me to get plenty of protien and fats since i am not a vegetarian. i wieght quite a bit more than you do i am 5'8" and weight 205 but i am eating around 5 to 6000 calories a day
